Is Lisa leaving BLACKPINK? Singer still negotiating contract renewal while source claims her future is 'uncertain'
SOUTH KOREA, EAST ASIA: South Korean girl band BLACKPINK continues to soar to new heights, making history with their raucous gigs and songs. YG Entertainment's contract with the wildly popular 26-year-old BLACKPINK member and K-pop solo singer Lisa is due to expire, and there are new rumors about her exclusive contract with the company.
According to Just Jared, there is a reasonable probability Lisa will leave the agency once the contracts expire in August, per a report published on Wednesday, July 12 by the Korean news site Munhwa Ilbo. According to reports, Lisa and YG Entertainment have been negotiating the terms of her new contract, but no agreement has been finalized as of yet.

'Contract renewal with Lisa is uncertain'
Following a statement made by an unidentified source to Munhwa Ilbo that read, "We discussed Lisa’s appearance [on the show] while coordinating with YG and Lisa’s schedule, but it was conveyed [to us] that it is difficult to arrange scheduled activities after August as their contract renewal with Lisa is uncertain," rumors suggesting Lisa may not renew her contract started to circulate.
The current discussions were addressed by a different YG Entertainment insider, who said, "[The uncertain scheduling] is due to the tour schedule as well as her individually scheduled activities. It has nothing to do with the contract renewal. Contract renewals are currently under discussion."
Thailand-born Lisa debuted with BLACKPINK in 2016
Lisa made her BLACKPINK debut in 2016 along with her teammates Jennie, Rose, and Jisoo after completing her two-year training. She is pursuing her solo profession alongside her role as a bandmate. Lisa, a founding member of the girl band, is widely recognized as BLACKPINK's greatest dancer. During BLACKPINK concerts, she often exhibits her ability to rap, showcasing her range of talents as an entertainer.
The diminutive Korean beauty broke two Guinness World Records following the release of her debut solo single 'Lalisa'. With 73.6 million views in 24 hours after its debut, the music video surpassed all previous solo artist records for video views. Lisa performed with Jisoo, Jennie, and Rose in April as part of BLACKPINK's headlining concert at Coachella. She received the MTV Video Music Award in 2022 for Best K-Pop video for 'Lalisa'. Lisa was the first solo K-Pop artist to get this recognition.

In August 2023, BLACKPINK's agreement with their management company, YG Entertainment, will expire. For those who are unaware, the majority of K-pop agencies sign seven-year contracts with the bands they represent, but very few extend them. As a result, many K-pop fans refer to this as the "seven-year curse," and BLINKS are concerned if they will see the members collaborate starting in the following month. It appears that we will have to wait for Lisa to make a formal declaration about her future with BLACKPINK.
