GUILT OR SHAME? Internet questions Johnny Depp's lack of eye contact with Amber Heard
Amber Heard spoke in court on Wednesday, May 4 to defend herself against a defamation case filed by her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, who appeared to avoid looking at her during her testimony. Heard began her testimony by claiming that the previous few weeks had been "the most painful and difficult thing I've ever gone through." She said, "This is horrible for me to sit here for weeks and relive everything. Hear people that I knew — some well, some not — my ex-husband with whom I shared a life, speak about our lives in the way that they have."
Heard was then asked to recount the first time Depp allegedly hit her during her testimony to which she replied, "I will never forget it. It changed my life." She claimed that she once asked about a tattoo on Depp's arm that appeared to be black marks. She laughed when he informed her it said 'wino,' thinking he was joking. She said that Depp then smacked her across the face. "I felt safe talking to my mom because I knew she understood those dynamics and she wouldn't judge me for staying with him, for loving him even though this was happening to me," Heard added.

Meanwhile, during the Heard’s testimony, Depp kept his head down for the first ten minutes of testimony. The actor appeared to be wearing sunglasses at first, and he avoided looking at Heard by focusing on the table in front of him. He seemed to remove his sunglasses as the testimony progressed, but he continued to avoid looking up. And as expected, social media took notice of Depp's actions and speculated about the reason behind his behavior. One user wrote on Twitter, “Johnny Depp hasn't looked in any way towards Amber Heard....this speaks volumes as to who the victim really is… While Johnny was on the stand...Amber Heard constantly looked in his direction!!!!”
“The way #JohnnyDepp is behaving is so rude and dismissive. Sitting there head down, doodling. If he was innocent he’d be head up, focused, listening to the testimony. Not his witness though is it? Questionable behavior,” another user added. “When Amber Heard avoids her judge-ordered depo it's nothing. When Johnny Depp isn't attending a court that doesnt require him to he's a coward," another remarked. Many on the other hand, believed Depp's lack of eye contact indicated fear terror rather than guilt just like one person wrote, "Notice the shift in JDs behavior. Head down. Drawing. Guarded. He's terrified of his abuser sitting feet away from him. Versus AH who did not look away from him once during his testimony."
