SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: K-pop idols are often placed in a postion of leadership in the Korean Entertainment industry as it is expected of them to live a controversty-free life. In the event an idol is embroiled in a controversy, it often ends up costing them their career. So is the case for Victon's Heo Chan who was caught driving under influence. After the singer was embroiled in the DUI controversy, IST Entertainment, the label that manages the activities of Victon reported that Heo Chan (also known as Heochan and CHAN) will be suspended from the boy group.

The report stated that Heo Chan will be excluded from future Victon activities but nothing has been revealed about his long-term participation in the activites of Victon. On September 22, IST Entertainment released a statement announcing that Heo Chan was caught driving under the influence on the morning of September 20. They reported that the Victon member is currently under investigation by the police and he reported that he plans to comply with the police investigations in all sincerity.

Victon's Heo Chan suspends all activities with the boy group

IST Entertainment added that Heo Chan is currently reflecting on his mistakes deeply as he regrets the mistake he has made. The label stated, "At the same time, we can't help but feel apologetic for causing trouble to our fans and many people involved." The label announced that due to his hiatus, Heo Chan will be suspended from his activities with Victon. The boy group will host the '2022 VICTON FANCONCERT Chronicle' that is scheduled for October 15 and 16 in a five-member system excluding Heo Chan. The idol posted a handwritten apology on his Instagram account on the same day, saying, "I will deeply rethink my actions as I regret the hurt and disappointment you have suffered through this incident." The label has not clearly stated that Heo Chan's hiatus from the boy group will be temporary nor made any clarification that he has permanently left Victon. 



 

'But it isn't permanent, is it?'

Fans however are confused about Heo Chan's future in the boy group as they wonder if his suspension from Victon will be temporary or if he will be kicked out of the boy group afterall. One fan asked, "Is it temporary or permanent? People saying different things on different outlets...I don't understand." Another responded, "For now, it seems to be temporary but we aren't sure." One fan said, "Who is really a Victon fan should not be criticizing, but supporting Chan at a time like this, now these insignificant ones who are not even fans because they are wasting time talking about him? Use your time to give love to your artists, Unoccupied." Another fan asked, "But it isn't permanent, is it?"

One fan countered, "Wow, the replies??? His action could killed people and their concern is whether he left the group or not?? They really can't wait until the situation subsides to ask that kind of question??" Another fan said, "Exactly I don’t stan or anything I saw the news on my tl and all the replies were like that I feel like no one takes this seriously ?! Like it’s a big deal pause." One fan defended, "We don’t know all the facts yet but just an fyi, in SK you can have your license suspended for blowing a 0.03….that’s one drink. You don’t have to be drunk to get a DUI." One fan said, "He did nothing wrong! you guys just ruined an innocent persons life… we love you heochan. stay strong."
