Is Colin McFarlane OK? 'The Dark Knight' star reveals he's diagnosed with prostate cancer, hints at 'genetic link'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Colin McFarlane who is best known for playing Commissioner Gillian B Loeb in 'The Dark Knight', has revealed that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. McFarlane revealed that the diagnosis came up after the testing took place in December 2022.
The actor said his willingness to participate in regular tests has helped in identifying the cancer at an early stage. For the past eight years he has maintained regular check-ups which has seemingly contributed in the identification of the disease at its early stage

Colin McFarlane is at 'low risk' stage
The doctors have clarified to McFarlane that he is currently at a 'low risk' stage. McFarlane also went ahead to say that the doctors have specified that he does not need any treatment currently because out of the five categories his cancer is T1, indicating its early stage.
However, that did not stop him from encouraging his brothers to opt for regular tests. It also led to one of his brother's diagnoses as well. McFarlane also depicted the knowledge of this disease and its impact on Black men. Daily Mail reports him saying that one in four black men are at risk of having the disease.
The genetic link to the disease
Apart from himself and his brother, McFarlane also said his father was diagnosed with prostate cancer long ago and had to go through operation. He wished his father had told him about it because of the existence of a genetic link, but also acknowledged the lack of awareness. McFarlane said, "He had no awareness of the fact that, actually, it was really important that he told us because there’s a genetic link." McFarlane said his father simply did not want to worry him and his brothers, which caused him to stay quiet about his operation back in 1999.

McFarlane also emphasized on the need for men to speak up about prostate cancer, instead of just waiting for regular symptoms to start appearing. The more a person waits for the symptoms to appear, the more is a possibility that the cancer has spread. If identified at an early stage, then the disease is curable. In work front, McFarlane was seen playing the character Ulysses in Season 4 and 5 of the hit series 'Outlander'.
