QUEBEC, CANADA: Celine Dion, 55, suffers from spasms that are impossible to control. Even as she is doing everything to battle the incurable stiff person syndrome, there is little her family can do to "alleviate her pain."

Celine's sister Claudette told Hello! Canada, "She's doing everything to recover. She's a strong woman."

Claudette, 74, however, admitted they were helpless.

When was Celine Dion diagnosed with stiff person syndrome?

Celine revealed that she had been diagnosed with the rare disease in December 2022 and was forced to cancel her world tour as a result.

Claudette, while speaking about the illness to the publication, said, "It's an illness we know so little about. There are spasms – they're impossible to control."

Sharing her helplessness, Claudette said, "There's little we can do to support her, to alleviate her pain."

She added, "We're crossing our fingers that researchers will find a remedy for this awful illness."

How did Celine Dion share about her stiff person syndrome diagnosis?

In a tearful video on Instagram, she revealed her diagnosis saying, "Hello everyone, I'm sorry it's taken me so long to reach out to you. I miss you all so much and can't wait to be on stage talking to you in person."

She continued, "I've always been an open book and I wasn't ready to say anything before but I'm ready now.

"I've been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it has been really difficult for me to face my challenges and to talk about everything that I've been going through," she continued.

Finally, she revealed to her fans, "Recently, I've been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called the Stiff Person Syndrome which affects one in a million people."

She added, "While we're still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what's been causing all the spasms I've been having..."

She said the daily spasm affects "every aspect "of her life and causes "difficulty" in walking too.

Is Celine Dion's condition worsening?

Reports suggest the 'My Heart Will Go On' singer's condition is deteriorating.

“Celine hasn't been photographed in public in almost 600 days — and with good reason," RadarOnline reported earlier this month.

"She has trouble walking and is at the mercy of loud noises that trigger spasms, which make her susceptible to failing," said a source.

"Her back has become hunched and her muscle spasms are, at times, unbearable," the source further claimed.

However, the source added she is refusing to accept the defeat and has been eating healthy and undergoing physiotherapy and meditating.
