Irrfan Khan dead: Angelina Jolie, Chris Pratt and Natalie Portman mourn 'exquisite actor' and 'screen legend'
Actor Irrfan Khan, a well-known face in international as well as Indian cinema, died on April 29 at the age of 53. He had been admitted to Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on Tuesday, April 28, where was under observation for colon infection. In 2018, Irrfan left his fans devastated when he announced that he had been diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumor. The actor left for United Kingdom for treatment and returned to shoot his last film, 'Angrezi Medium'.
Irrfan who has been called India's face in Hollywood, had made a place for himself in the international arena with roles in films like 'Slumdog Millionaire', 'Jurassic World', 'Life Of Pi', 'The Namesake', 'The Amazing Spider-Man' and 'A Mighty Heart'. Celebrities like Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Angelina Jolie and 'Jurassic World' director Colin Trevorrow took to social media and paid their tribute to him.
Sharing a photo with Irrfan on her Instagram story, Portman wrote, "Sending love to Irrfan's loved ones today." Portman had worked with Irrfan in 'New York, I Love You.'
Pratt tweeted, "So sad to hear about the passing of screen legend @irrfank Irrfan Khan played Masrani in Jurassic World. He was an exquisite actor and human. He will be missed."
Jolie, who worked with Irrfan in 'A Mighty Heart', told BBC "He [Irrfan] stood out for his generosity as an artist, which made it a pleasure to work in any scene with him. I remember the intensity of his commitment, and equally his smile. I send my condolences and my sympathy to his family, his friends, and all admirers of his work, in India and around the world."
Trevorrow tweeted, "Deeply sad to have lost #IrrfanKhan. A thoughtful man who found beauty in the world around him, even in pain. In our last correspondence, he asked me to remember “the wonderful aspects of our existence” in the darkest of days. Here he is, laughing."
Ava DuVernay proclaimed she was a fan as she tweeted her condolences: A grateful fan of #IrrfanKhan here. Gone too soon. When he is on screen, you can’t take your eyes off of him. He lives on in his films.
An official statement by the actor’s representatives said: "‘I trust, I have surrendered,’ these were the some of the many words that Irrfan expressed in a heartfelt note he wrote in 2018 opening up about his fight with cancer. And a man of few words and an actor of silent expressions with his deep eyes and his memorable actions on screen. It’s saddening that this day, we have to bring forward the news of him passing away. Irrfan was a strong soul, someone who fought till the very end and always inspired everyone who came close to him."
