Iowa school shooting: 2 students killed and teacher hurt, cops say 'incident was targeted'
DES MOINES, IOWA: A shooting at a school on the outskirts of downtown Des Moines, Iowa, on Monday, left two students dead and a teacher injured, police said. The shooting took place at an educational program called 'Starts Right Here' which is affiliated with the Des Moines school district.
The program, which helps at-risk youth, was founded by Will Holmes, a rapper whose stage name is Will Keeps, as per CBS News. Police say emergency crews were called to the school, which is located on the premises of a business park, just before 1 pm.

Officers arrived at the scene to find two students critically injured. The officers immediately started CPR on the injured students who later died at a hospital. The teacher, who was injured in the incident, is left in critical condition and is headed into surgery Monday afternoon, reports said.
Police claim that about two miles away, they stopped a car that matched the description of witnesses and detained three suspects. One of them, according to the police, fled the scene, but officers were able to trace the suspect with the help of a K-9.
Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley took to Twitter to announce that he was monitoring the situation. He tweeted, "I'm monitoring reports of a shooting in Des Moines at Starts Right Here charter school. Thx to first responders & law enforcement for promptly responding. Praying for all those affected," AP reported.

Police have said that the shooting was targeted and that there was nothing random about it. “The incident was definitely targeted. It was not random. There was nothing random about this,” Sgt. Paul Parizek said as per the wire service. Moreover, witnesses reported that offices and other establishments around the school were put into lockdown, apparently to arrest the attackers.
"Yeah, another mass shooter and the same response. It does nothing and is becoming really offensive. Firearms need much better regulation and the time to do it is today. Your way is tried and fails at least once a week," a user reacted on Twitter. "A horrible thing, but last year I was screaming at the rooftops about this, and you and @IAGovernor ignored the cries for help. You are hypocrites. Stop with the fake concern," another wrote taking a jibe at the Governor and State gun laws.
