Virginia teacher wounded in shooting at Richneck Elementary School, cops say 'no students were injured'
NEWPORT NEWS, VIRGINIA: There were reports of an active shooter at Newport News school in Virginia. The Richneck Elementary School is where the scenes are unfolded and it has students from the age group of five to nine, the latest reports suggest.
In the shooting, a teacher has been reported to be injured after receiving a gunshot wound, the extent of injuries remains unclear, reports said. Apparently, the adult was taken to the hospital after the shocking incident. In an update, police said that no students were harmed and that parents are being reunited with their children.

Currently, the teacher is being treated at Riverside Regional Medical Center, but police have not released the extent of her injuries. NNPS said the person responsible for the shooting is in police custody. Apparently, sources from NNPS tell WAVY it was a first-grade student who shot the teacher. There are also reports claiming the child to be a seven-year-old boy.
Newport News is a small coastal city next to the Chesapeake Bay. The school is currently in lockdown reports said. Newport News Police Department said, "one adult was shot. Injuries are unknown at this time. They were taken to hospital. No students were injured." It further said in an update, "There is no longer an active shooter. We’re beginning the process to reunite parents with students." More information on the incident will be shared later, the police department said.

As per KSDK, the school spokesperson confirmed that a staff member was hurt while the school was in lockdown. There is a reunification site kept for the parents, it said. Reports said the WAVY," Dispatch received the first call about the incident at 2 p.m."
