Internet slams Megyn Kelly’s argument backing Russell Brand’s alleged victims, questions ‘timing’ of sexual assault allegations
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Megyn Kelly faced backlash as she slammed the reactions of people defending Russell Brand. Netizens questioned the “timing” of the rape and sexual misconduct allegations against the actor in response.
The 52-year-old discussed the ongoing fiasco surrounding Brand, who has been accused of rape and sexual assault by four women who detailed incidents that happened over the course of seven years.
Kelly blasted those defending Brand and calling the women “liars” stating that the accounts were “extremely detailed” and that one of the women went to a Rape Crisis Centre to overcome the trauma.
Megyn Kelly rains down on people defending Russell Brand
The former Fox News host didn’t hold back in speaking out against all those who were defending Brand and calling all the allegations against him false.
She brought the attention of her viewers to the statement of a woman who produced medical records after visiting the Rape Crisis Centre and exposing text messages of Brand “begging for forgiveness” for his act.
Kelly was furious and asked her viewers to consider the possibility that these women could, in fact, be speaking the truth.
She exclaimed, visibly frustrated, “Could you please, for a second, stay open-minded to the possibility that the women are telling the truth?”
She added, “We don’t need to so overcorrect from the MeToo movement that every woman gets completely disregarded and called a complete liar when she finds the guts to come forward and make an allegation.”
Kelly raised her hands in frustration and said she was “pissed” after witnessing many guys coming out in the open and calling it all “bulls**t.”
The former Fox News host was livid as she said, “You don’t know whether it’s bullshit or not. Did you read the report of this woman? Did you read the alleged rape details? Did you read the text messages that she has from Russell Brand begging for forgiveness?”
Kelly stated that there’s “at least enough for us to want more facts.” However, despite her rant, netizens seem to believe that Brand was innocent until proven otherwise and brought to light the “timing” of these allegations.
Internet questions ‘timing’ of allegations after Megyn Kelly’s remarks
Many on the internet weren’t entirely sold about the women coming to the forefront with these accusations now. They wanted to know what took them so long.
One wrote, “Why did BOTH wait so long to come forward and all of a sudden, at the SAME time?!!!!!! I smell something.”
A second said, “Russell Brand has lost his book deal, his agent and his tour has been canceled. His Netflix shows have been pulled. Over allegations.”
The same person continued, “And the timing is directly after he dropped some painfully hard facts on air with Bill Mahar. The same seems to happen to an awful lot of people when the time is just right. Come on, Megyn.”
A third said, “It’s not about that; I think people are feeling like the timing is weird…Russell Brand is very outspoken about the state of the world and whenever someone is outspoken they are often silenced.”
A fourth added, “The timing of so many of these things is more than suspicious. Why now?”
Another person said, “This sounds like Megyn Kelly in 2015 saying the same s**t about Trump!”
