Internet shreds 'baby boomer' Whoopi Goldberg for 'insensitive' remarks towards millennials and Gen Z on 'The View'
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: ‘The View’ co-hosts all belong to varied generations and recently spoke about millennials and Gen Z, and more specifically how they have a different view of the “American dream.”
As different hosts weighed in on the matter, the focus remained on Whoopi Goldberg, who took a dig at the younger generations, and said, “I'm sorry if you only want to work four hours.” This segment was shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, and the internet was not impressed by “baby boomer” Goldberg.
‘The View’ panel discusses millennials and Gen Z
Whoopi Goldberg narrated the topic of millennials and Gen Z to her co-hosts, “Apparently, millennials and Gen Z have a different view of the American Dream than past generations. Data shows that soaring inflation, student debt, and limited room for advancement in the workplace have made them feel like milestones like affording a home, starting a family, and excelling within the corporate structure are out of reach.”
She further added, “Does every generation feel this way at some point? I say yes. What do you think?”

Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sunny Hostin, Joy Behar, and Sara Haines, who all belong to different age groups chimed in with their thoughts before Goldberg interrupted them.
“You know, listen, every generation comes and wants to do better than their parents did, every generation. But I'm sorry if you only want to work four hours, it's only going to be harder for you to get a house,” said Goldberg.
Griffin tried to intervene but Goldberg continued, “You know, I feel for…I feel for everybody that feels this but I’m sorry. We busted out behinds. We had to bust our behinds because we didn’t have the option of going back…”
Once again Griffin tried to interrupt by mentioning the absence of a housing crisis back then but Goldberg did not stop, “Listen, we had all kinds of stuff back then.”
Griffin finally spoke, “The one thing it says, millennials are statistically the first generation that’s likely to do worse off than their parents.”
To this Goldberg responded, “You know that’s what they said to us as well. Every generation is told you’re going to do worse than your parents and you know what, people pick it up and they do what they do, and they raise themselves, and this is what you got to do, it’s called being a good citizen.”

“Sometimes Whoopi totally gets it wrong. This would be an instance,” wrote one user and another angry person explained, “Whoopi, watch your tone. In 1985 when you were 30, the average house was $80k. Price now is roughly $220k. The “American Dream” is a scam and we can lowkey thank your generation.”
