WASHINGTON, DC: First Lady Jill Biden and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, shared an unexpected moment Tuesday evening, February 7, just before President Joe Biden delivered his second State of the Union address. They kissed on the lips. And the Internet now seems shocked and is asking, “Jill Biden and Doug Emhoff greet each other with... a kiss on the lips? Is this... normal?”

The awkward incident occurred when President Biden's wife entered the Chamber as she walked toward the crowd and joined Emhoff to stand at his side, who then took the First Lady's hand before the two briefly kissed on the lips. The moment immediately went viral on Twitter. With one of many pointing out, "Wait….whaaaaaaat the f*ck just happened?? Jill Biden just kissed the husband of Kamala Harris on the lips!" Another said, "WHAT IN THE ACTUAL HELL. Did @FLOTUS and @SecondGentleman just kiss on live national television?" While an individual wrote, "I’m literally in shock."

Expressing their shock, a user commented, "Didn’t see that one coming." While one wrote, "No I’m not the only one who caught that. That was quite a greeting." Radio hots Clay Travis tweeted, "Sexy start to the State of the Union tonight with Dr Jill Biden and Kamala’s husband with a heck of a hello kiss."

However, many were left puzzled as one of them asked, "Why the hell did Second Gentlemen Doug Emhoff and First Lady Jill Biden just kiss each other on the lips?" Another individual asked, "Am I missing some back story?"

Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff met on blind date

Emhoff, an entertainment attorney who was born in Brooklyn and raised in New Jersey, was previously married to film producer Kerstin Emhoff and has two children together, Cole and Ella, Insider reports. After his divorce in 2008, Harris and Emhoff were set up on a blind date in 2013 by Harris' girlfriend Chrisette Hudlin, who had met Emhoff through her work. Harris told about it on Emhoff's birthday in 2020, "The morning after our first date, @DouglasEmhoff emailed me a list of his available dates for the next couple of months. He said, 'I want to see if we can make this work.' We’ve been making it work ever since."

In an interview with Jane Pauley of CBS News' Sunday Morning in January 2020, Harris revealed that the date wasn't exactly blind, but that she had Googled her future husband before meeting him. "I did!" Harris said with a laugh, while Emhoff smiled and said, "Oh. This is a reveal!" "So, yes, my best friend set us up on a blind date. And she said, 'Just trust me. Just trust me.' You know, she wanted me to just kind of go into it, and she said, 'Don't Google him.' I did!" Harris explained.

On August 22, 2014, the couple got married. The ceremony was presided over by Harris's sister, Maya.
