LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Lauryn Hill appeared late during the tour stop in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 4, and called the audience “lucky” for her making it on “stage every night.”

The ‘Ex-Factor’ singer is currently on her tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her debut album ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’.

The ‘Fugees’ ex member who has made quite a reputation for showing up late to her solo concerts, showed up late during her Saturday tour stop in Los Angeles and addressed the audience about her delay, per Complex.

The ‘Nothing Even Matters’ songstress addressed the waiting audience and said, "Yo, y'all lucky I make it on this blood ras stage every night.”

She added, "I don't do it because they let me do it. I do it because I stand here in the name of God and I do it.”

She continued explaining, “God is the one who allows me to do it, who surrounded me with family and community when there was no support."

Referring to ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’, the Grammy-winning singer said, "When the album sold so many records, and no one showed up and said, 'Hey, would you like to make another one?' So I went around the world, and I played the same album over and over and over and over again.”

She concluded, “Because we are survivors, and we're not just survivors, we're thrivers."

'Ma’am they are literally paying you to be on stage'

Lauryn Hill's comment drew an immense criticism from social media users as they called the rapper out for her remarks.

One of the fans said directly, "It’s quite literally your job imagine a regular person telling their manager this."

Another fan said, "She’s been late to concerts since the early 00’s like atp it’s on the people buying the tickets."

"One of the worst things is someone who disrespects other peoples time no excuse," castigated another fan.

"I find it interesting how artists like Lauryn Hill use God and spirituality to protect their ego. There is something strange about using religion as a thin veil to escape accountability. It is narcissistic and very disrespectful to the loyal fans," theorized another.

"You just have to wait," mourned another.

Someone else strongly condemned, "This is literally your job, you're not doing them a favor."

"Lucky? Ma’am they are literally paying you to be on stage," slammed another fan.

A fan said while sharing their experience, "She was almost 3 hours late when i went to see her lol."

"Respect for her music And legacy but She forgets that actually the people is paying to her," observed someone else.

"There's only one way to make her understand people's emotions and time is just stop going to her concerts," declared another.

'I don't show up late to shows because I don't care'

Hill addressed her tardiness before as well when she was called out for showing up late at an Atlanta concert in October 2020, per Essence.

After showing up late to the concert by almost two hours, Hill was subjected to harsh criticism, following which she made a post on her Facebook account saying it is not that she doesn’t care about her fans.

Hill wrote in her post, “I don't show up late to shows because I don't care. And I have nothing but Love and respect for my fans.”

However, she noted the struggle and said, “The challenge is aligning my energy with the time, taking something that isn't easily classified or contained, and trying to make it available for others.”

She added, “I don't have an on/off switch. I am at my best when I am open, rested, sensitive and liberated to express myself as truthfully as possible. For every performance that I've arrived to late, there have been countless others where I've performed in excess of two hours, beyond what I am contracted to do, pouring everything out on the stage.”

Hill continued to discuss her artistic process and said,  “Because I care so deeply about the artistic process, I scrutinize, have perfectionist tendencies, and want space made for spontaneity, which is not an easy process, with the many moving parts on the road. Some days we are more successful than others re time.”

“However, the vitality that is infused into the performances is always appreciated by the audiences, who may not know exactly what it took to accomplish,” she continued.

Hill added, “What hasn't been touched upon by the media, I'm sure, are the hundreds of people who rushed the stage and stayed in excess of an hour after the show ended last night, just to connect.”
