BERKELEY, NEW JERSEY: Central Regional School District (CRSD) & Seaside Heights Superintendent Triantafillos Parlapanides has resigned. This came after 14-year-old Central Regional High School student Adriana Kuch died by suicide on February 3 after a video of her being bullied surfaced on the Internet on February 1.
During an emergency Zoom meeting on Saturday, February 11, Parlapanides, formerly a student, teacher and principal at the high school, submitted his resignation. On Saturday, February 11, the CRSD posted a statement on its website stating, "The Central Regional School District Board of Education has accepted the resignation of Dr Triantafillos Parlapanides. The Central Regional family continues to mourn the loss of one of our children. We are all praying for the family and loved ones and our entire community. The Central Regional School District is evaluating all current and past allegations of bullying. The District has contacted the Department of Education and will undergo an independent assessment of the District's anti-bullying policies and ensure every necessary safeguard is in place to protect our students and staff. Before resigning, Parlapanides said the district's response to the girl's death was in accordance with policy and that it was standard practice for the school to notify police, as previously reported. He reportedly responded to questions by providing details of Kuch's personal family life and possible drug use as the cause of her suicide. He told DailyMail, "Her father was having an affair at the end of her 6th grade. Her father married the woman he had an affair with and moved her into the house." And added, "Her grades and choices declined in 7th and 8th grade. We offered her drug rehab and mental services on five occasions but the father refused every time."
'What he did was unacceptable'
Following the update on Parlapanides' resignation, one Facebook user wrote, "FINALLY!! There are still other staff members that need to be held accountable for tho…" Another commented, "Too little too late. They needed action when the fight occurred and this poor girl would be alive today. This is a tragedy!" One more said, "What he did was unacceptable. He should have known better."
One of many continued to say, "This was a horrible tragedy for that poor young girl. The fact that the principal didn’t call the police is horrendous. I’m glad the superintendent resigned." While an individual wrote, "Good because he’s a big part of the problem at Central Regional. Good riddance."
