A Reddit user has sparked a debate online after kicking out his mother from his house as she called his wife 'trashy'. The user, u/CoverFew7481, took his experience to the Reddit forum, 'Am I the A******?', on September 25, saying his mother and her boyfriend came to stay with him to visit her six-month-old grandson. However, things went south after his wife asked his mother to help her with the laundry, making the latter 'furious'.

The man asked his mom to get lost from his house for criticizing his wife and she isn't half the woman her wife is, which got the web divided after he shared this experience online.

CoverFew7481, according to his Reddit post, wrote, "My mom came over recently to meet our 6-month-old son. My wife asked my mom to help her out by putting our son's laundry in." By defending his wife he then admitted that he and his wife come from "very different families." He added, "I know she offended my mom. In my mom's world you don't ever ask a guest to do something like that. In my wife's family they are very close, a bit suffocating at times to be honest, and everyone pitches in. For example if we stay with my wife's family we are given chores. If we stay with my mom we are waited on like guests."

He wrote that could sense that his mom was "furious". Talking about his mother's boyfriend, the user said, "Her boyfriend went in the laundry room with her and was like "what the f**k why would she ask you to do that, why are you doing it?" to which his mom replied that she doesn't want to argue with her son anymore. The user continued narrating his story, "Her boyfriend was like 'ok but to be clear if my mom came over would you ever ask her to do work?' My mom said 'no, I'm not trashy.'"

u/CoverFew7481 user added that he "turned red" after listening to the insult that was directed to his wife. "I said how dare she call my wife names in our own home. My mom tossed the things at me and said good, I can wash them as it isn't her house and she did not chose to bring our son into the world," he wrote. He replied to his mother by saying that "she crossed a line by calling his wife names." He concluded the post by writing, "I told her to get the f**k out and she isn't half the woman my wife is. My mom told me we are both trashy and she is done with us. My grandparents were furious when they heard and chewed me out for being entitled."

The post drew 6,500 upvotes and over 1,000 comments and Reddit users have been divided on who was in the wrong. "If I’m visiting someone with a newborn, I’m asking what I can do with them. Especially if they’re family," wrote one. "In what 'culture' does family not help the new parents?" wrote another user. "Good job standing up for your wife," said another.

Others, however, thought the poster was in the wrong. One of them said the laundry request was "rude". "Asking her to do the laundry was a power play on her part," said one while another added, "Dude the baby is 6 months, it’s not a newborn".
