A video giving instructions to people on how often they should wash their socks, towels, and denim is going viral with  different individuals giving different opinions on the subject and one of many saying, "Funny how everyone finds it disgusting to wear clothes more than once."

The video, posted by Washland -- a zero-waste laundry detergent -- on June 7, 2022, on Facebook, shows a person throwing different clothes in the washing machine and detailing out the number of times that piece should be washed. The first clip showed that one should wash socks after every wear, the second one showed washing bras after three to four uses, followed by shirts that were instructed to be washed after two to four wears, pajamas in three to five wears, bedding in every two weeks, towels to be washed once or twice in a week and the last one showed washing denim after wearing it for 10 times. Thousands of social media users took to the comments of the video, calling it “nonsense” and some argued it was a “waste of water.”

Netizen's take on laundry video

Commenting on the video, which has over 108K likes and more than 19K comments, one social media user wrote, "Different people have different needs. Some of my clothes are worn several times before washing. If I followed this schedule I'd be wasting a hell of a lot of water, detergent, my time, and wearing out my clothes far too soon from unnecessary washing."

One person said, "Such nonsense. It depends on how much you sweat and how soiled they get. Everyone can be slightly different." Another expressed, "Pj's 3 to 5?? Um hell no.. after 2 nights there getting washed. U sleep in them.. and bedding I wash every week."

Talking about hygiene, a user said, "I can’t imagine getting out of the shower all fresh and putting on a shirt I’ve already worn twice or a bra I’ve worn 2-3 times in the summer in this heat."

However, one of many took a dig and said, "Still no clarification on underpants? I guess the verdicts still out on those ones. Can you please make an updated video so that I know if I should wash mine yet or not."

While one questioned why people find it disgusting to wear the clothes more than once. The user wrote, "Funny how everyone finds it disgusting to wear clothes more than once. My mom would never let us wear our clothes just once. Humans did not wash their clothes after every wear until the 1950s when the washing machine was invented. Now our earth is being depleted of water at an alarming rate. Not to mention the damage to the environment from people using fabric softener which is not necessary because there are healthier alternatives. Oh well when we all have to start being rationed on water use people will have to get used to the idea of wearing their clothes multiple times. If you keep your body properly clean then it is not gross. I can't afford to wash my clothes after every wash because of cost of water and the fact that washing your clothes too often breaks down the fabric."
