'Heartwarming to see diversity': Internet celebrates as Wes Moore elected as Maryland's first Black governor

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND: Democrat Wes Moore made history in Maryland as the state's first Black governor. Moore is the third Black governor elected in the country. Moore was elected Maryland’s governor after defeating Republican Dan Cox in a state where Democrats outnumber Republicans 2-1.

Moore was born in Maryland and raised in New York. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University and received a master's degree from Wolfson College, Oxford. He became an investment banker in New York after many years n the US Army and Army Reserve. He later became an investment banker in New York. Moore is notably a best-selling author and former head of the anti-poverty organization 'Robin Hood' and has published five books, including one young adult novel, between 2010 and 2015. Moore was named a White House Fellow to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in the past.

Just days ago, President Joe Biden went to Maryland to stump for Moore. However, during his speech, he seemed to forget the name of the candidate he was stumping for. "And, of course, you got that next governor. What’s his name? Wes… Wes…," Biden said, turning to the audience who appeared to help him recall the name. "Wes Moore!" Biden said after reading a sign. "The guy’s the real deal, man." He added: "He’s a combat veteran and a Rhodes scholar. I’ve always worried about Rhodes scholars, though. They’re so damn smart. I wonder about it, you know?" 

Social media rejoiced at Moore's victory, with one user writing on Twitter, "Congratulations Maryland! It’s heartwarming to see diversity in the Governor elections!!" "Definitely one to watch. A Takoma Park native. Congratulations..," wrote another user. "i saw him last night on @TheLastWord @Lawrence. he was very impressive. he had that charisma thing, like he will go farther," wrote one user. "Congratulations Mr Moore. Maryland is on its way to greater heights towards prosperity and equality for all!," one user wrote, while another said, "Congrats!! So great seeing Americans finally giving others some of the power instead of only to straight white men! Massachusetts governor tonight is the first women openly gay!" "Cheering and celebrating our first Black Governor here in MD! So excited for and proud of Wes Moore!" one user commented.
