Internet rejoices as Sarah Huckabee Sanders beats Chris Jones to become Arkansas' first female gov
LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: Republican candidate and former White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was elected Arkansas governor on Tuesday, November 8. With her victory, she became the first woman to lead the state. She is now also the highest profile Donald Trump administration official in elected office.
In Sanders' predominantly Republican home state, she defeated Democratic nominee Chris Jones in the race for governor. Numerous people have favored Sanders to win, including Libertarian nominee Ricky Dale Harrington.

Sanders, the daughter of former Gov Mike Huckabee, successfully broke state fundraising records with her campaign, focusing mainly on national issues. She had promised to use the office to fight President Joe Biden and the “radical left." Sanders has now succeeded Republican Gov Asa Hutchinson, who is set to leave office in January due to term limits. When Sanders left the White House in 2019 to return to Arkansas, Trump had publicly encouraged her to run for governor.
Sanders notably appeared in ads for her father and worked for his campaigns in the past. She is also known for managing Sen John Boozman’s 2010 election and working as an adviser to Sen Tom Cotton in 2014. She left the campaign trail for a while in September after undergoing surgery for thyroid cancer. After the surgery, her doctor said she was cancer free.
After the win, Gov Mike Huckabee tweeted, "Janet and I have been praying for a great night for @SarahHuckabee and the rest of the country! Congratulations to Sarah, Bryan and Arkansas, we are overjoyed! Now our eyes and prayers are turned towards the rest of the country and the return of Republican leadership!"
