Charli D'Amelio posts trans rights petition, Internet likens it to ‘what Jeffree Star did in his apology video'
TikTok influencer Charli D'Amelio, who was recently in news for attending a massive Hype House birthday party despite a record number of Covid-19 cases in California, recently took to social media to raise a petition on 'trans rights'.
In her petition, there were more than 20 rights related to the LGBTQ community and it seems she posted it on Twitter to bring attention to the cause. However, within a few hours of her post, the Internet started bashing her, saying that she is just "covering up" for what she did "wrong" and she should address it instead on social media. What's more, many compared her stance to the Jeffree Star apology too.
A Twitter user said, "I appreciate you spreading love, petitions, and information, but you’re doing exactly what Jeffree Star did in his recent apology video. You’re trying to cover up the fact that you did something wrong and using all these petitions as an excuse to not address smth!!" The user added, "She didn’t do anything that was like GOD awful, but she went to a party with 100s of people in the middle of a pandemic in California. I just want her to address is b/c she’s promoting almost that this irresponsible behavior is okay."
However, another defended her saying, "She’s been posting Petitions and links FOR MONTHS. she isn’t doing this to 'cover' anything up when ppl are already bashing her on social media." Many even asked her to add pronouns. "Can you put your pronouns on your account it helps normalize it for trans people," one tweet read and another said, "hi Charli!! thank u sm for sharing :] would u mind putting ur pronouns somewhere on ur account? it helps normalize it for trans people, so we can avoid being misgendered without being targeted and singled out for it :]."
In no time, the Internet linked Star's 10-minute apology video, 'Doing What's Right', with Charli's tweet. The 'Doing what's right' video went viral after Internet users claimed that Star didn't address a lot of issues in his video for which he should have apologized for. Star said the video would be a "new chapter" in his life. But many YouTubers said that Star had done that many times in the past.
Charli attended a birthday party in California on July 21, when against all odds, several influencers reunited to celebrate Larri Merritt's 22nd birthday. A sizeable group of TikTok and YouTube influencers — mostly without masks — attended the event in a mansion in the Hollywood Hills. Besides Charli, James Charles, Nikita Dragun, Tana Mongeau, Dixie D'Amelio, Emma Chamberlain and many more were a part of it and several clips and pictures from the night were shared on social media.
