Inside Cole Sprouse's relationship with estranged mom Melanie as he calls her 'most irresponsible person'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Cole Sprouse bared his heart out to the Internet about his experience as a child artist and the wounds he received from his loved ones including his mother Melanie Wright Sprouse, and his ex-girlfriend Lili Reinhart on ‘Call Me Daddy’ podcast. On Wednesday, March 8, Sprouse called his now estranged mother the “most irresponsible person” as she “lost” all the money the Sprouse twins earned from acting.
The former Disney star candidly spoke about his and his brother Dylan’s experiences as child actors with the podcast host, Alex Cooper. The Sprouse twins, who started acting when they were only eight months old, were responsible for earning the family’s bread and butter. Their parents had a divorce when they were less than one-year-old.

Talking about the legal battle they had to fight, Sprouse shared in the podcast that aired on March 8, "Both my brother and I went through a lengthy court battle at about 10, and custody was stripped from my mother and given to my father." Further commenting on the philosophical differences in child-rearing that their parents had, Sprouse said, "[My father] desperately wanted us to be normal kids, and my mother wanted us to be ... a bit more of a caricature of two normal kids."
Sprouse then added, "I don't think I've ever talked about this ... When my father was given forced custody, we had pretty much lost everything from the youngest parts of our career. That would be 'Friends' and 'Big Daddy.'" Reminiscing about his mother, he said, “My mother was an incredibly wonderful and artistic woman, but she was financially the most irresponsible person ever."
Yet, the ‘Riverdale’ star added that he doesn't "blame" his mother as she was suffering from mental health. The ‘Big Daddy’ actor then added, "I think if anyone knew the kind of woman she was, they could have said it would have gone the exact same way." The 30-year-old then said, "I am remorseful in very many ways that she wasn't able to get out of it but I don't blame her at all."
Who is Melanie Wright Sprouse?
Melanie was born to Jonine Boot Wright and Merrill Eugene Wright in Long Beach, California. Her mother, Jonine Boot, who was an actress and drama teacher probably had an influence on her which Melanie inculcated in her sons. Having a modest number of social media followers at 1,628 counts, she doesn't seem to have an online presence of late, as her last post was in April 2018. Melanie and her husband, Matthew Sprouse, worked as teachers in Italy during the birth of the Sprouse twins. After the couple's separation, she came back to the US where she encouraged her sons in pursuing acting.

When the ‘Friends’ alum was asked whether he has any relationship with his mother, he answered, "Not at all." However, he added, "I miss her a lot … She was an incredibly beautiful and artistic woman."
'The Suite Life of Zack & Cody' star sounded wistful as he said, “In truth, she lost her mind ... I think it was the consequence of some weird alchemy of addiction and mental instability and it's probably the greatest wound in my life, and also the greatest driving force for my continuing in this industry."
In a now-deleted post on Tumblr a few years ago, Sprouse shared that the twins were into acting because of their mother, Melanie, "My brother and I were put into acting when we were 8 months old by our mother because we needed money. I never made the decision to join the arts or to act specifically. And so it was never really my passion." He also added, he is an actor because of her. "To be honest, if she never thrust me into it, I probably never would have thought of it as a career choice for myself," as per BuzzFeed.
Melanie, who allegedly doesn’t have any connection with the Sprouse brothers, sometimes posts throwback pictures of the twins on her Instagram account. Once she posted a picture of the twins with the caption, "C&D."
