LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jimmy Kimmel is all set to host the Academy Awards for a third time. Kimmel posted a parody video on Instagram on Tuesday to share the news. In Kimmel's introduction video, the comedian played Tom Cruise in a parody of 'Top Gun: Maverick'. The promo video also starred Billy Crystal, Parnell, and Jon Hamm.

Kimmel's Oscars trailer for 'Top Gun: Maverick' suggests Tom Cruise's action flick will be one of the major attractions of the 2023 Academy Awards. The ceremony will take place on March 12 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.

What happens in the trailer?

Kimmel plays a sequence from 'Top Gun: Maverick' where Hamm and Parnell brief Cruise's character on his new assignment. The two characters in the new video instead give Kimmel a hosting duties briefing. The fact that Kimmel was not their first option for the job—or even their second—and that they only gave him the position as a last resort makes for a funny reminder to Kimmel. Then, while Hamm and Parnell rue their choice, Kimmel goes on to describe how he intends to emcee the three-hour ceremony that will honor the best films of 2022. Billy Crystal also appears in the clip's funny conclusion.

Will 'Top Gun: Maverick' be huge at 2023 Oscars?

There are high expectations for 'Top Gun: Maverick' to win big at the Academy Awards because it is regarded by critics and viewers alike as one of the best movies of 2022. There are six categories in which 'Top Gun: Maverick' is up for an Oscar, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, Best Sound, Best Original Song, and Best Visual Effects. However, in the Best Picture race, 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' appears to be the undisputed front-runner. Besides, the critically acclaimed blockbuster 'Avatar: The Way of Water' is also in the running with four Oscar nominations. The sci-fi hit trumped 'Top Gun: Maverick' as the highest-grossing film of the year.
