'I'm A Virgo' is 'refreshingly original and there's nothing else like it on television,' said Albert Cheng, COO and Co-Head of Television, Amazon Studios
Amazon Prime Video has recently announced a new half-hour dark absurdist comedy from writer-director Boots Riley. 'I'm a Virgo' follows a 13-foot-tall Black man as he navigates life in California. Little information is available at the moment, but get ready to see Jharrel Jerome in a brand new avatar in Riley's project.
Here's everything you need to know about the new Amazon Prime series.
There is no official release date yet since 'I'm A Virgo' is only just greenlit at Amazon Prime Video. MEAWW will update this article when the information is out.
According to the official synopsis of the series, "I'm A Virgo is an absurdist, coming-of-age joyride about a 13-foot-tall young Black man who lives in Oakland, CA."
So far, the casting information is not entirely available. We don't even know the role that Jerome plays. The actor won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor and the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Actor in a Movie/ Miniseries for his performance of Korey Wise in Ava DuVernay's 'When They See Us'. He also starred in Barry Jenkins' film 'Moonlight', which won the Academy Award for Best Motion Picture of the Year.
'I’m A Virgo', a co-production of Amazon Studios and Media Res project, is created and written by Boots Riley, who also serves as executive producer, along with Michael Ellenberg through Media Res, and Jerome. Riley, who is also set to direct the series, said according to a press statement, "I’m thrilled to be working with Amazon on this project. This show will either have me lauded or banned and as such, I have demanded payment upfront." Riley's first feature 'Sorry to Bother You', which he wrote and directed, was one of the most buzzed-about films at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. Later that year he signed a script deal with Media Res, which became 'I'm a Virgo'.
"'I'm A Virgo' is refreshingly original and there's nothing else like it on television,” said Albert Cheng, COO and Co-Head of Television, Amazon Studios. "No one is quite like Boots, and we're so excited to be working with him and Jharrel on this fantastical, funny, and utterly unique new series. We can't wait for our Prime Video customers to see it.”
There's no trailer for 'I Am Virgo' yet as the series is just sanctioned. Circle back to MEAWW for the latest updates.
