HBO's ‘I'll Be Gone In The Dark’ has brilliantly explored writer Michelle McNamara's investigation into the dark world of a violent predator she dubbed the Golden State Killer. As the last episode, ‘Walk into the Light’ airs, it brings to light the real face behind the serial killer and rapist dubbed as Visalia Ransacker, East Area Rapist, Diamond Knot Killer and the Original Night Stalker.

As the 72-year-old former police officer, Joe DeAngelo's arrest unfolds in real-time, chilling facts materialize that illuminate Michelle's prescience in her book's epilogue, 'Letter to an Old Man'. Researcher Paul Haynes and true crime writer Billy Jensen try to learn everything they can about DeAngelo. Exclusive interviews with DeAngelo's relatives reveal early family trauma and his double life as a suburban dad and serial predator. His ex-fiancé also details the behavior and warning signs that lead her to end their engagement. Having finally faced their attacker in court, several survivors meet for the first time and gain strength in their shared desire to confront their pain, move forward and advocate for all sexual assault survivors.

As his realities are shown in the six-part docuseries along with how it still affects the victims, it has stirred quite a lot of hatred and angst on social media. Several viewers can't stop wondering why he is still alive. What's more, analyzing his sexual fantasies, one even went on to say that he might have a "small penis". "Just put a bullet in his head and call it a day. F**k the trial. #IllBeGoneInTheDark," one Twitter user posted and another said, "My biggest take away so far from #IllBeGoneInTheDark is that the #GoldenStateKiller has a very small penis. It all makes so much sense."

Many others also expressed dismay at how frail and old he was when he was finally caught after over 30 years of search. "This pathetic old man is the monster? I mean, you grow old eventually. #IllBeGoneInTheDark," one said and another posted, "He’s not frail. He is old. It’s his last failed attempts at being manipulative. Try again, a**hole."

Many others sympathized with the victims and called them "brave". "Still amazes me how someone can kill so many people and go on living normal life for DECADES, unbothered. | #IllBeGoneInTheDark," one tweet read and another said, "How brave are those women who sat in that court room, mere feet from the monster who forever changed their lives, and watched him be arraigned. #IllBeGoneInTheDark." One user went on to say: "I am not a fan of true crime at all because it scares me, but #IllBeGoneInTheDark on HBO is so so so so good!!!!!"
