IDAHO, MOSCOW: Madison Mogen's distraught father believes that the Idaho murderer or murderers made a mistake at the scene that will soon lead to their arrest. However, he also admits that he is surprised to still be waiting for answers since the case is already six weeks old.

“From the very beginning, I've known that people don't get away with these things these days,” Ben Mogen told The Spokesman-Review. “There's too many things that you can get caught up on, like DNA and videos everywhere. This isn't something that people get away with, that goes unsolved.” Mogen claimed that investigators spoke with him for three hours on the day of his daughter's candlelight vigil. The fact that his daughter's killer(s) are still at large leaves him with a lot of unresolved questions despite his thanks for everything they have done thus far. The distraught father claimed that he communicates frequently with one of the primary investigators. “There were so many questions that I figured would be answered, and we're still waiting,” he said.

Given all the online rumors, gossip and inaccurate information that has surfaced which he described as "hurtful," he said he appreciated the frequent updates in particular. “It's hard for me to read all of these articles,” Mogen told The Spokesman-Review. “I can get all my news about it right from there (investigators), and I don't have to try and drudge through all this misinformation.” Mogen, who described his daughter Maddie as "smart, funny, and a real go-getter," is still struggling to come to terms with the devastating loss of his 21-year-old daughter. In the early hours of November 13, Madison, her closest friend Kaylee Goncalves, their roommate Xana Kernodle, and Kernodle's boyfriend, Ethan Chapin, were all fatally stabbed in their off-campus residence close to the University of Idaho campus.

However, he also expressed his thanks for the fact that investigators can access resources from throughout the nation, particularly the FBI, and that they are working around the clock, including on holidays, to uncover those guilty so he may secure justice for his daughter. “I have to just know that they know what they're doing, and if they don't, then they know someone that does,” he said. Mogen, who was inconsolable, claimed he was only trying to survive each day. For their close-knit family, this is the first Christmas without Madison. He said that a memorial service had been organized to commemorate his daughter, whom he referred to as someone who "inspired" him. “I am so proud to be able to say that she was my daughter and what she was doing with her life and where she was headed,” Mogen said. “She was living the life that she deserved.”
