He was with his son on December 15, 2022, at around 10.41 am local time, when an officer pulled over their white Hyundai Elantra for following another car too closely and simply delivered a verbal warning. Following the police stop, the same vehicle the duo was in was stopped by an Indiana State Police trooper for the same reason. They were on a road trip back to their home in Pennsylvania.

After Bryan was arrested, the footage of the duo being warned by the police for overspeeding was released by Indiana Police Department. Michael accompanying the 28-year-old on their road trip was one reason to doubt his involvement in the murders. Meanwhile, he is a maintenance worker, and the family is settled in Indian Mountain Lake, a gated society in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania. The last time he was on the news was when he was spotted cleaning their home on January 8, 2023, after the SWAT team raided their home on December 30, 2022. Meanwhile, Bryan's family had also previously responded to their son's arrest. Their statement read, “First and foremost, we care deeply for the four families who have lost their precious children. There are no words that can adequately express the sadness we feel, and we pray each day for them. We will continue to let the legal process unfold and as a family, we will love and support our son and brother.” It then added, “We have fully cooperated with law enforcement agencies in an attempt to seek the truth and promote his presumption of innocence rather than judge unknown facts and make erroneous assumptions,” before adding, “We respect privacy in this matter as our family and the families suffering a loss can move forward through the legal process."
