Iconic sitcom 'Fawlty Towers' is BACK! John Cleese announces new show he's writing with daughter
Iconic British hit sitcom 'Fawlty Towers' finally returns! Nearly four decades after the original show ended, John Cleese is set to make his return as the famous Basil Fawlty. However, this time the show will welcome an interesting plot twist after John's real-life daughter Camilla Cleese will star too.
Monty Python actor John, 83, and his comedian daughter Camilla, 39, have already begun writing new episodes of the former BBC program which was dubbed as the greatest British sitcom of all time. The new series will focus on how cynical Basil takes a toll in the modern world, and it was announced on Tuesday, February 7.

What is the 'Fawlty Tower' revival about?
The previous two series which ran from 1975 to 1979 for 12 episodes revolved around hotelier Basil and his wife Sybil, portrayed by Prunella Scales, trying to keep the hotel and their marriage afloat while a strong plot focusing on the "annoying section of the general public who insist on staying at hotels," according to Daily Mail. However, the return focuses on John and his estranged daughter Camilla, who will star as Basil Fawlty's estranged daughter, and together the pair will run a boutique hotel.
Not much is known about the project, the other cast members, or if anyone from the original series will star in the show. In 2019, the original series was named the greatest British sitcom of all time by a panel of television experts for Radio Times magazine. The upcoming sitcom will be developed by actor and filmmaker Rob Reiner's Castle Rock Entertainment. Executive producers for the show include actor Rob Reiner, his wife, actress Michele Reiner, director, and producer Matthew George, and Derrick Rossi.
'John Cleese is a comedy legend!'
Producer Matthew recalled meeting John and Camilla was one of the "great thrills" of his life, adding, "I'm obsessed with Fawlty Towers and the legendary characters he created." "I've watched the first two seasons so many times I have lost count. I dreamed of one day being involved in a continuation of the story. Now it's come true." John spoke about Matthew and said, "What I like about Matt is that, unlike many producers, he really 'gets' the creative process."

"By dessert we had an overall concept so good that, a few days later, it won the approval of Rob and Michele Reiner." Rob Reiner said, "John Cleese is a comedy legend. Just the idea of working with him makes me laugh."
