Shocking video shows plane crashing into Orlando highway after running out of fuel
Remy Colin could not see any other place where he could land, so he decided to sacrifice the plane and did his best not to injure anyone
ORLANDO, FLORIDA: A shocking moment captured in a video shows a small plane crashing into a highway in Orlando, Florida on Friday, August 19 after the pilot misjudged his fuel level. The pilot, Remy Colin, who was the only person aboard, miraculously survived the dramatic crash with only minor injuries.
The plane crashed onto the busy street on University Boulevard and North Econlockhatchee Trail just before 4 pm on Friday. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a mechanical failure caused the plane to crash, and a witness captured the moment on video.
According to Colin's LinkedIn profile, he runs a company called Aerial Messages that has been in business since 1999 and "offers a wide range of aerial advertising solutions such as banners, billboards, skywriting, airships, and much more." Colin told ABC News that it was intended to be a test flight for the aircraft, which had just completed its yearly safety checks. Apparently, he neglected to check his fuel level because he was preoccupied with fixing the broken radio on the aircraft. He said, "The plane ran out of gas and lost all power."
Colin also claimed he did not see any other place where he could land, so he decided to sacrifice the plane and did his best not to injure anyone. He suffered some bruising but was otherwise unharmed.
One onlooker told WESH that they believed it was a car crash until they peered over their fence and noticed a plane parked in a driveway. Amanda Skuban, who captured the accident on camera on her way to Costco, said, "All of a sudden it started to drop, and that’s when we were like, 'Oh my God.' I just kind of freaked."
Ben Stillman, who lives in the neighborhood, said, "We heard a big crash, kinda like a car crash, and we assumed it was a car crash. Our house is right over there and we peeped over the fence and we just see this plane sitting in the driveway."
FHP Orlando tweeted, "Orange County Traffic Alert: Troopers are currently on-scene of a plane crash. The eastbound lanes of University Blvd near Hall Road are currently blocked. The pilot sustained minor injuries. Drivers need to use caution in the area and use an alternate route."

Another witness told News6, "It seemed like there was a moment where it just kind of dropped a little bit more than it was coasting, you know?" He added, "At first, it was coasting, then it was just down. All of the cars just stopped. And I just wanted to get the video. I started calling 911, you know, and people were getting out of their cars to go over to it."
