BEDFORD, TEXAS: The official height of Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is 5 ft 10 1/8 in (178 cm/ 1.78 m), slightly shy of the 6-foot mark.

Murray has some outstanding physical skills, like a cannon arm and lightning-quick speed, but he is also reportedly vertically challenged, and there has been debate about his height ever since the 2019 NFL Draft.

The issue of Kyler Murray's height surfaced in 2019 after a photograph made the #1 QB appear unusually short.

Kyler Murray's height controversy

Murray, the top overall pick in 2019, was seated in the front row for a photograph at the NFLPA's rookie premiere next to the Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marquise Brown.

Murray looked shorter than Brown, who is listed at 5 ft 9 in. Murray, on the other hand, measured 5-foot-10 at the 2019 NFL Combine. That metric contributed to his status as a top draft pick, per USA Today.

Murray joined the Cardinals in May 2019, and despite concerns about his height, he has excelled on the field ever since. However, the subject of Kyler Murray's height is still trending.

Kyler Murray is officially classified as being 5 ft 10 1/8 in (178 cm/1.78 m). Marquise Brown is reportedly listed as 5 ft 9 in (175 cm/ 1.75 m).

However, Murray's height was the subject of rumors after a picture from the NFLPA Rookie Premiere in Los Angeles surfaced. As mentioned, Brown appeared to be taller than Murray in the image.

This has fueled rumors that Murray isn't really 5 ft 10 in height. Nevertheless, the perspective of the image and Murray's posture may skew our view of their respective heights.

Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray are two quarterbacks in the NFL who are renowned for their agility and skill despite not being the ideal quarterback size.

Wilson's height is officially stated as 5 feet 10 5/8 in (180 cm/ 1.8 m).

Russell Wilson is therefore a little bit taller than Kyler Murray. Height isn't everything when it comes to playing quarterback, though, as seen by the fact that both of them had successful NFL careers.

Their backgrounds in baseball are both widely known, and Murray was also selected in the first round of the league when he was drafted into the MLB.

Their most spectacular college football triumph came with their second program while they were each students at two Power 5 institutions.

Is Kyler Murray the shortest quarterback in the NFL?

Murray was reportedly the shortest quarterback in NFL history to be taken first in the NFL Draft when the Cardinals selected him first overall in 2019.

"I'm always the smallest guy on the field," Murray told The Washington Post. "I’ve said it multiple times — I feel like I’m the most impactful guy on the field and the best player on the field at all times. I’ve always had to play at this height."

What is Kyler Murray's net worth?

Kyler Murray's net worth in 2023 is said to be $40 million. While this may sound excessive for a 26-year-old, Murray currently has one of the most lucrative average contracts in the NFL.

Insights into Kyler Murray's personal life

Murray's mother grandmother was a native of South Korea, making him a third-generation Korean American. Murray follows Christianity. From 1983 to 1986, Kevin Murray, the father of Murray, played quarterback for Texas A&M.

Calvin Murray, his uncle and a University of Texas alum, was a professional baseball player for the Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and San Francisco Giants. Devin Duvernay, his cousin, played wide receiver for the Baltimore Ravens after graduating from the University of Texas.

Murray has stated that playing chess has improved him as a football player. He is an avid player. He won school tournaments when he was younger. Murray joined the FaZe Clan in April 2021 and is an avid video gamer.

College years at Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Standout moments and contributions

In 2015, Kyle Allen won the starting quarterback position at the University of Oklahoma, with Murray appearing in games as a backup.

In his first start, Murray threw for 223 yards and rushed for 156 yards, making him and Cam Newton the only Southeastern Conference quarterbacks in the past 20 years to gain over 100 yards passing and rushing in their first career start.

In 2017, he was a backup quarterback to Baker Mayfield, making his season debut against UTEP and playing in some games in relief. In 2018, Murray was chosen as the starting quarterback, tying for over 4,000 yards and 42 touchdowns in the regular season.

In December 2018, he won the Heisman Trophy as the best collegiate football player in the country, leading Oklahoma to a Big 12 Championship win and an appearance in the College Football Playoff.

In the 2018 Orange Bowl, he threw for 308 passing yards and had two passing touchdowns, becoming only the third Heisman Trophy winner to not be awarded consensus All-American honors.

Comparison to other shortest QBs in NFL history and Addressing height importance in the NFL

Though he doesn't quite top the list, Murray is surprisingly one of the shortest passers in league history. There are still plenty of quarterbacks who rank above or, more accurately, below shorter quarterbacks.

Murray is the second-shortest quarterback to have measured at the NFL Combine since 1987. He is standing at 5 ft 10 1/8 in (178 cm/ 1.78 m). Former Navy quarterback Chris McCoy, who stood just under 5 ft 10 in (1.77 m or 177 cm) tall, is the shortest quarterback in history.

There aren't many quarterbacks shorter than Murray in NFL history. With a height of 5 ft 7 in (1.70 m or 170 cm), Eddie LeBaron gained notoriety as the "Little General" while playing for the Washington and Dallas Cowboys in the 1950s and 1960s.

Here are a few more short-framed NFL passers:

Quarterback

Height

Team(s)

Eddie LeBaron 5 ft 7 in Cowboys, Washington
Doug Flutie 5 ft 10 in Bears, Patriots, Bills, Chargers
Russell Wilson 5 ft 11 in Seahawks
Sonny Jurgenson 5 ft 11 in Eagles, Washington
Fran Tarkenton 6 ft 0 in Vikings, Giants
Drew Brees 6 ft 1 in Chargers, Saints

Defensive linemen benefit from height because it allows them to block passes with outstretched arms. Because of their smaller stature and lower center of gravity, short running backs are generally more difficult to tackle effectively.

The QB's height is irrelevant, though. In the NFL, passing success necessitates a wide range of skills, including accuracy, arm strength, decision-making, pocket presence, athleticism, and off-platform ability. QB height has no inherent relationship with any of these attributes.

High school football and  baseball career

Murray, a former baseball player, opted out of the MLB draft after attending Texas A&M. He played for the Oklahoma Sooners baseball team in 2017 and the Harwich Mariners in the Cape Cod Baseball League.

In 2018, he batted.296 with 10 home runs, 47 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases. Despite his intentions to continue his football career, the Oakland Athletics selected Murray with the ninth overall selection of the 2018 MLB draft.

Murray announced in January 2019 that he would focus on his football career, forgoing baseball. Some believed that Murray's limited stature relative to a typical NFL quarterback was a mistake.

However, his greater-than-expected measurements improved his draft stock, making him the best quarterback prospect available. Murray was drafted first overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2019 NFL Draft, becoming the shortest quarterback drafted in the first round.

Kyler Murray height controversy's impact on public

Twitter has revealed that Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray is 5 ft 10 in tall and has a hand size of 9.5 inches.

This comes after weeks of speculation about his height. Despite having the highest quarterback rating in college football history (95.8) and a season with 4,361 yards, 42 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions, doubters have been quieted as Twitter praised the single inch that seemed to make all the difference for Murray.

NFL tweeted, "Listed at 5'10" by @OU_Football, @TheKylerMurray had 5 passes batted down last season per @PFF. That's tied for the fewest among the 4 QB in @MoveTheSticks top 50 prospects. The other 3 are all listed at 6'3" or taller.”

“A surge through Indianapolis as Kyler Murray checks in a shade above 5-10. Millennia from now they’ll study rocks in the Midwest and date our time as pre- and post-Kyler measurements,” a user posted.

Another user stated, “When NFL scouts thought Kyler Murray was 5'9" vs when he measured 5'10" today.”

"Kyler Murray would have been a lineman on the first All-America team," fourth person tweeted along with a picture of the 1889 college football all-American team's weights and heights.
