MARACAY, VENEZUELA: Jose Altuve, a Venezuelan professional baseball second baseman and Houston Astros star is 5 ft 6 in (168 cm/ 1.68 m) tall, as per KHOU, and was notoriously turned away from a trial camp just because he was thought to be too small.

Google searches for Jose Altuve's height have gone up since many people appear to believe he is the shortest player in MLB history.

However, did you know that a number of baseball players in the past have measured shorter than the Astros star?

Eddie Gaedel, at 3 ft 7 in (109 cm/ 1.09 m) tall, holds the record for being the shortest player in MLB history. Will another player surpass his track? No way!

Altuve reportedly joined Houston in 2011, and since then has only played for the Astros in Major League Baseball.

He was there during both the Astros' prosperous and unsuccessful seasons, as well as their run of six consecutive trips to the American League Championship Series.

Altuve went to a Houston Astros tryout camp in Maracay when he was 16 years old. He wasn't allowed to play, though, since the team's scouts determined he was too short and believed he had lied about his age.

Altuve returned to the camp the following day, encouraged by his father, and showed his birth certificate. "Can you play?" asked Al Pedrique, Astros' special assistant at the time. The 16-year-old responded, "I'll show you," while looking him straight in the eye.

He was supported by Pedrique in the front office, who persuaded them that he had the ability and stamina to one day compete in the major leagues.

The club reportedly evaluated him, and on March 6, 2007, they signed him to a contract as an undrafted free agent with a $15,000 bonus after he impressed team executives, per the New York Times.

Aaron Judge is one of baseball's tallest active players on the field at 6 ft 7 in (201 cm/ 2.01 m).

Judge isn't the tallest active player competing in the sport. This title goes to Giants reliever Sean Hjelle, who stands 6 ft 11 in (211 cm/ 2.11m) tall and has experience playing in the major leagues.

Both Cubs reliever Brad Wieck and Rays starter Tyler Glasnow are taller than Judge at 6 ft 8 in (203 cm/ 2.03 m). Judge was previously said to be outranked by 6-foot-8-inch teammate Dellin Betances.
