PASADENA, CALIFORNIA: Bryce Young is currently on his way to carve a niche for himself in the NFL after being drafted by the Carolina Panthers as the No. 1 draft pick in April 2023, despite his relatively short stature of 5 ft 10 in (178 cm).

With a Heisman Trophy under his belt, Young, a 22-year-old junior from Pasadena, California, became one of the most highly sought-after quarterback prospects in the drafts after finishing his collegiate career with 80 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 27 games.

While Young proved his prowess throughout his prolific college career at Alabama, what most garnered public attention was his short height.

Bryce Young’s height has mostly been listed as 5 ft 10 in (178 cm) per Daily Mail, making him the shortest signal caller in this year's NFL Draft class.

His height has been a raging topic of discussion since the start but he previously insisted that it doesn’t bother him anymore as he is “comfortable in [his] abilities.”

Is Bryce Young the shortest quarterback in NFL?

Bryce Young’s height reportedly makes him the shortest player to ever be drafted No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft. He is also currently the shortest quarterback in the NFL, sharing the spot with Kyler Murray, who is also 5 ft 10 in (178 cm).

However, neither of these current players is the shortest quarterback in NFL history. Per News19, Eddie LeBaron, who retired in 1963 and was called 'The Little General' was only 5 ft 7 in (170 cm), making him one of the shortest quarterbacks in NFL history, sharing the height with Davey O'Brien, who played for only two seasons and retired in 1940.

In the list of shortest quarterbacks, Murray and Young come above Denver Broncos QB Russell Wilson who has been listed as 5 ft 11 in (180 cm) tall.

Bryce Young’s short height is easily noticed when compared to NFL stars like Tom Brady, who is 6 ft 4 in (193cm), Patrick Holmes (6 ft 2 in or 187cm), Nick Bosa (6 ft 4 in or 193 cm), Aaron Donald (6 ft 1 in or 185cm), and Josh Allen (6 ft 5 in or 196 cm).

What does Bryce Young say about his height?

Bryce Young’s height garnered immense criticism in March when he was considered to be drafted as one of the top two players in the NFL Draft after having some exemplary games for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Following his draft, Young laughed off the criticism, saying he doesn’t believe that his height is a hindrance as he is comfortable with his abilities.

“I focus only on what I can control,” Young told The Charlotte Observer on the eve of the draft. “I can’t grow. I'm myself, I'm comfortable in my abilities. … I've been this height, relative to the people around me, for my entire life,” he further stated.

He previously acknowledged the height concerns in January when he told Sports Illustrated "You learn to deal with the challenges of being a few inches shorter than the prototype."

The star quarterback added that he had to work through "being able to see through the line, making sure you can create angles with the ball, being able to let that go and make sure you’re going to get through your progressions."

Who are Bryce Young’s parents?

Bryce Young was born to Craig Young and Julie Young on July 25, 2001, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Both his parents are of African-American descent. His parents, Craig and Julie, have been married for 27 years and have been together for over 30.

As a child, Young was relocated to Pasadena, California, where he attended Cathedral High School for two years before he was recruited by football powerhouse Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California.

He was also a passionate basketball player but his short height led him to steer his career towards football. As a high school senior, he committed to playing football for the University of Southern California, a commitment he followed through in 2018.

In September 2019, he switched from USC to the University of Alabama, where he rose to fame as a quick quarterback star and won the highly coveted Heisman Trophy.
