LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: R&B singer Usher, 44, claimed in an interview that he “knew Beyonce when she was 12 years old” and has played the role of a “babysitter” for Queen Bey.

The ‘My Way’ singer also said there was a time when he had to almost “chaperone” the group named Dolls, which Beyonce was a part of.

How old is Usher?

As per New York Daily News, Usher was born in Dallas in October 1978, which makes him 44 now. Beyonce, on the other hand, is 41. She was born on September 4, 1981.

In a candid conversation on the UK radio show 'Capital Breakfast With Roman Kemp' on Friday, Usher revealed, "Fun fact: I knew Beyonce when she was 12 years old, 11 years old.”

The Hollywood Walk of Famer continued, "She used to be in a group by the name of the Dolls. I don't know if I could consider myself their babysitter, but I actually had a time where I had to watch the Dolls," reported People.

Usher shared an anecdote about when he was at record producer and songwriter Daryl Simmons' house and ended up being the chaperone for the group.

He said, "[Simmons] was working with [the Dolls] at the time, and I just happened to be over there and they were working on a session.”

The ‘King of R&B’ continued, "I kind of found my way into being their, like, I don't know, chaperone, nanny, or something like that, because I was kinda the oldest person in the room."

Connection between Usher and Beyonce

Usher appeared in a music video for Beyonce in her 2003 smash hit single ‘Naughty Girl’. In 2008, Beyonce returned the favor when she appeared on Usher's single ‘Love in This Club, Part II’ alongside rapper Lil Wayne.

Per Entertainment Tonight, both Usher and Beyonce are stakeholders of Jay-Z’s music streaming service ‘Tidal’, which Beyonce’s husband purchased in 2015.

Did Usher pull an April Fools prank using Beyonce’s name?

While performing at Dreamville Festival in April 2023, Usher announced to his grooving audience that Beyonce was a surprise guest.

“I said I would have a special surprise for you tonight, ladies and gentlemen,” Usher said. “You guys wanna know what that surprise is?”

“Ladies and gentlemen,” he continued, “without further ado, put your hands together for the one, the only, Beyonce!”

He even waited patiently for Beyonce to appear. When the mother of three did not appear, he looked as if he was checking.

Coming back, he made the dreaded comment, “April Fools,” which disheartened the fans, per Billboard.
