Matthew Macfadyen who dissed superhero movies as 'a**-paralyzingly boring' is now in 'Deadpool 3'

Matthew Macfadyen, who had said that actors starring in superhero and sci-fi films were 'doing it for the money,' has now been cast in 'Deadpool 3'

LONDON, ENGLAND: Several 'X-Men' characters are reportedly in talks to make their way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). As per a tweet from a user named @CanWeGetSomeToast, 'X-Men' characters such as Storm, Jean Grey, and Cyclops may join 'Deadpool 3.' These roles were previously played by Halle Berry, Famke Janssen, and James Marsden, in the first 'X-Men' film that was released in 2002.

The tweet reads, "Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine won’t be the only X-Man returning in #Deadpool3! Halle Berry, Famke Janssen and James Marsden will also reprise their roles as their Storm, Jean Gray, and Cyclops respectively."

'It’s a**-paralyzingly boring'

Among the cast of 'Deadpool 3' is Matthew Macfadyen, who played Mr Darcy in 'Pride and Prejudice'. But what many people don't know is that Macfadyen had once dissed the whole 'superhero' movie genre. A Vanity Fair article from May 19, 2022, had published remarks made by Macfadyen that are contradictory to his decision to join the cast of the Ryan Reynolds-lead supergero franchise — though to be fair, it is an extreme outlier in the superhero genre and meant for adults not kids.

Macfadyen had revealed that he did not have the interest in following British actors into superhero blockbusters or science fiction films. “I’ve done one big film like that, and it was a green-screen thing. It’s a**-paralyzingly boring, just acting to tennis balls and dots on the screen. You’re doing it for the money," he said.

Macfadyen is now set to join other actors to star in the film, including Emma Corrin (The Crown) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine). It is scheduled for November 8, 2024, at present. His role is unknown at the moment.

Macfadyen is best known for his role as Tom Wambsgans in 'Succession.' The role earned him the Emmy Award and BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his performance in the series' Season 3. 'Deadpool 3' is the first film in the superhero series that will be part of the MCU. It is directed by Shawn Levy, who has worked with Reynolds and Jackman in the past.
