LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Riverdale’ star Cole Sprouse, who was in a relationship with Lili Reinhart for three years, recently revealed in an interview that he had received death threats after splitting up with his former girlfriend.
Questioning whether it is a supreme case of “fanaticism”, Sprouse, 31, in a joint cast interview of the hit show, shared that he was at the receiving end of “really nasty” criminal things after his split.
How long did Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse date?
The co-stars from the CW series, ‘Riverdale’, Sprouse and Reinhart, 26, dated for three years from 2017 to 2020. In March 2020, the former Disney star shared with his fans that they were no longer together.
In the joint cast interview with Vulture, Sprouse revealed that he received “honestly criminal stuff” from fans who rooted for his and Reinhart’s romance.
Saying, "I get a lot of stuff sent to my house or my loved ones' houses," Sprouse added, "Death threats, really nasty, honestly criminal stuff. And I do think it's because at least four of us at this table have dated our co-workers."
While the ‘Suite Life of Zack & Cody’ star plays Jughead Jones, Reinhart essays the role of Betty Cooper on the hit show.
Sprouse then reflected on the nature of fandoms and questioned whether the line between “love” and “fanaticism” has blurred. He said, "Is that just a consequence of an incredible love? Or is that what fanaticism looks like?”
He further explained, “Perhaps because those lines were blurred to our audience, it's hard to break those things up when life moves on."
'Riverdale' is currently on its seventh and final season and will be wrapping up next week after a successful run of six years.
Are Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart friends?
Despite having a not-so-amicable breakup in 2020, the ‘The Suite Life on Deck’ star said to Alex Cooper in her ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast in March 2023 that the former couple are “good friends now.”
He added that they "work really well together." Referring to the breakup, however, he said, "It was really hard. It was really hard for both of us," per People.
Sprouse added, "I think the work thing got difficult because it was hard to suspend all the way we felt about each other and it didn't afford us the luxury of distance to really overcome that. I know we both did quite a bit of damage to each other in that."

Lili Reinhart confirmed her relationship with TikTok star Jack Martin, per Independent. She took to her Instagram story to celebrate Martin’s birthday on August 3.
She wrote in the birthday tribute featuring Martin wearing a black cowboy hat, “It’s my cowboy’s birthday.”
In the second photo of the story, sharing a photo of Martin holding a chocolate pastry, Reinhart wrote, “I’ll split a pain au chocolat with you any day.”
In another image, she continued, “I’m so grateful for the light you’ve brought into my life,” before adding, “Happy birthday, mon petite.”
