Update: Mike William's family has claimed that the NFL star is alive and remains on life support despite reports that he had died. 

VANCE, SOUTH CAROLINA: Former NFL wide receiver Mike Williams, 36, is still alive and remains on life support in hospital following a freak accident at a construction site accident. 

Reports of Williams' death were initially made by multiple sources but the family has now confirmed that he is alive. 

Williams, who excelled at Syracuse College and played for several NFL teams during his five-year NFL career, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs, decided to retire from football in 2016.

When did Mike Williams leave the NFL? 

Mike Williams made the decision to part ways with the NFL in 2016, subsequently pursuing other ventures in his career.

He scored the second-most touchdowns in school history, sharing that distinction with pro football Hall-of-Famer Marvin Harrison.

Before his NFL career, Mike Williams was a college football star at Syracuse, where he played for three seasons. 

His impressive college performance led to his selection by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2010 NFL Draft, where he was chosen in the fourth round, 101st overall.



 



 

Throughout his NFL career, he accumulated 223 receptions, 26 touchdowns, and 3,089 receiving yards. His untimely passing is a tragic loss to the football community and beyond.

A GoFundMe page was initially created to support Williams' father in traveling to the hospital in Tampa, Florida, explaining that a steel beam fell on Williams' head, resulting in a severe head injury. 

What happened to Mike Williams?

According to Williams' father, he suffered brain and spinal cord swelling, as well as complete paralysis in his right arm and below the waist.

The post goes on to mention that he lost consciousness on September 1 due to breathing difficulties stemming from the accident. 



 

Subsequently, doctors discovered water in his lungs and placed him in an induced coma on September 3.
