How did Bryan Randall die? Sandra Bullock's long time partner who battled ALS for three years was 57
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Bryan Randall, the model-turned-photographer who had been in a relationship with Sandra Bullock since 2015, died on August 5 after a three-year battle with ALS, his family announced on Monday. He was 57.
ALS, (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to muscle weakness, paralysis and eventually death. There is no cure for ALS and the average life expectancy after diagnosis is two to five years. It is also known in some countries as a motor-neurone disease.
How did Bryan Randall die?
Lou Gehrig was a famous baseball player in the 1920s and 1930s and ALS ended his career as per Clevland Clinic. Randall’s family said in a statement to People that he chose to keep his journey with ALS private and thanked the doctors and nurses who cared for him.
"It is with great sadness that we share that on August 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS," the family said.
“We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this illness with us and to the astounding nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours,” they said.
Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private
"Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private and those of us who cared for him did our best to honor his request."
The family also asked for privacy to grieve and to come to terms with the impossibility of saying goodbye to Randall. "His Loving Family," the statement concluded.
“He was an example even when I didn’t agree with him,” Bullock said of Randall in a December 2021 appearance on Red Table Talk. Bullock, 59, met Randall when he photographed her son Louis’s birthday in January 2015. They began dating several months after it.

'I don’t always agree with him'
They took their relationship more public later that year, including an appearance at Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux’s wedding. Bullock is a mother to two adopted children, Louis, 13, and Laila, 10, and Bryan has an adult daughter named Skylar from a previous relationship.
During the same 'Red Table Talk' episode, Bullock said that Randall was a great “example” to her children and that he was very Christian. Bullock said, "I am someone who went through the divorce process. I found the love of my life,' she continued. 'We share two beautiful children — three children, his older daughter. It's the best thing ever."
She also addressed the topic of marriage and said that she did not feel the need to tie the knot with Randall. “I have a partner who’s very Christian and there are two different ways of looking at things. I don’t always agree with him, and he doesn’t always agree with me,” she said.
