LOS ANGELES, CALFORNIA: Alaqua Cox plays Marvel's first deaf hero in the upcoming series 'Echo'. For those unfamiliar, the American actress has triumphed over the challenges of her physical disabilities to become an MCU star.
While Cox is also an amputee with a prosthetic leg, the details of how she lost her leg have never been revealed.
During an interview with ABC7 Eyewitness News, Cox said, "I have a lot of communities that I can advocate for, and most of them are underrepresented."
She added, "I'm excited for them to be able to see themselves through me on the screen. Hopefully, they will think they can do anything that they put their minds to, and they can achieve anything."
As a longtime Marvel fan, Cox's proud to be an advocate for people like her, as she said, "From the indigenous community to the deaf community, the amputee community, I wish I had that experience when I was little."
She added, "I'm happy to be that experience for them now."
