LOS ANGELES, CALFORNIA: Alaqua Cox plays Marvel's first deaf hero in the upcoming series 'Echo'. For those unfamiliar, the American actress has triumphed over the challenges of her physical disabilities to become an MCU star.

While Cox is also an amputee with a prosthetic leg, the details of how she lost her leg have never been revealed.

During an interview with ABC7 Eyewitness News, Cox said, "I have a lot of communities that I can advocate for, and most of them are underrepresented."

She added, "I'm excited for them to be able to see themselves through me on the screen. Hopefully, they will think they can do anything that they put their minds to, and they can achieve anything."

As a longtime Marvel fan, Cox's proud to be an advocate for people like her, as she said,  "From the indigenous community to the deaf community, the amputee community, I wish I had that experience when I was little."

She added, "I'm happy to be that experience for them now."

Cox, portraying Maya Lopez/Echo in Marvel's upcoming mini-series 'Echo', shares a unique connection with her character. Both Cox and Maya are deaf by birth.

Born in 1997 in Keshena, Wisconsin, to Elena and Bill Cox, she attended a school for the deaf.

What is Alaqua Cox doing now?

Cox is living the best time of her life! After making her acting debut in 2021 with Marvel's 'Haweye', she is gearing up for the release of her own spin-off mini-series 'Echo', scheduled to release simultaneously on Disney+ and Hulu on January 9, 2024.

Her upcoming work hasn't been announced yet. Meanwhile, she is currently enjoying a new phase in her personal life.

"I still can’t believe I birthed this little handsome boy," she said in one of her Instagram posts. Cox has, however, never revealed the identity of her fiance.

On the other hand, being deaf and an amputee hasn't stopped Cox from living a normal life. Snippets of her lifting weights in the gym and going hiking to enjoy beautiful views serve as a source of inspiration for many.
