Hilaria Baldwin claps back at 'cruel' trolls after Amy Schumer's 'sociopath' jab on Netflix special: 'It's a ridiculous thing'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Hilaria Baldwin slammed Amy Schumer after the comedian, 42, labeled Hilaria "sociopath" and criticized her "von Trapp family" in her standup. The 39-year-old mother of seven made the remark shortly after Schumer attacked both Hilaria and her husband, Alec Baldwin, during her 'Emergency Contact' Netflix special. In an interview with Romper that was published on Wednesday, June 21, the former yoga instructor responded to those harsh backlashes.
Schumer's comedy special 'Emergency Contact' debuted on Netflix on June 13, 2023. Among several hard-hitting jokes, one attacks Alec and Hilaria Baldwin in light of the couple's string of controversies. Toward the end of the 51-minute show, Schumer poked fun at the pair. Hilaria is now slamming "cruel" people in response to Schumer's barbs.

How did Hilaria Baldwin respond to Amy Schumer?
Schumer has not received a direct response from Hilaria. Baldwin spoke out about the onslaught of online (and occasionally real-life) bullying she frequently encounters in an article that was published in Romper on June 21, 2023, a week after Schumer's comedy special. Hilaria declared, "It is a ridiculous thing to be cruel to another person," as per Daily Mail.
Everything about Schumer's act is a reaction to the uproar that was stirred up in late 2020. According to a popular Twitter thread by user @lenibriscoe, it was revealed to the public that Hilaria, who had been known as Hillary up until 2009, was actually an American who was born and raised in Boston and wasn't actually Spanish. It was alleged that before getting married to Alec Baldwin, she eventually decided on Hilaria as her legal name.
As if the issue wasn't bizarre enough, Spanish appropriation was woven into the concept of Hilaria and Alec's wedding. A flamenco hand fan, readings in both Spanish and English and a veil resembling a Spanish mantilla were just a few of the ways Hilaria incorporated her self-described Spanish "culture" into her June 2012 wedding to the 'Rust' actor. The Daily Mail reported at the time that the couple said "sí" to their vows rather than "I do."

'They have a von Trapp amount of children'
Schumer even referred to Hilaria as a "sociopath" and her family as a "von Trapp family" from 'The Sound of Music' in the Netflix special. Also, Hilaria's husband, actor Alec Baldwin, came under fire from Schumer because he was involved in the accidental killing of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October 2021 while filming the movie 'Rust'. "Her husband shot someone..." At one point in her stand-up set, 42-year-old Schumer told her audience, "Don’t look down the barrel of Alec Baldwin’s shotgun."
Prior to the Netflix show, Schumer attacked the family, dubbing Hilaria "insane" when she made news for supposedly fabricating her Spanish ancestry. Hilaria introduced herself to Schumer "years ago" backstage at SNL, where the actress revealed that she was "from Espana." The comedian said, "They have a von Trapp amount of children, and they named them all - I’m not sure, but very Spanish names like Jamon, Croqueta and Flamenco."
Alec and Hilaria are parents to seven kids: Carmen, 9, Rafael, 7, Leonardo, 6, Romeo, 5, Maria, 2, Eduardo, 2, and Ilaria, 8 months; Baldwin also has a 27-year-old daughter, Ireland, with his ex-wife Kim Basinger. Romper and Hilaria also spoke about Hilaria's children with Alec.
