Helen Mirren says it was 'flattering' to be mistaken for Keanu Reeves' new flame Alexandra Grant
While it is now clear that Helen Mirren is not dating Keanu Reeves, it seems she doesn't have a problem with the confusion.
Reeves sparked dating rumors after hitting the red carpet at the LACMA Art + Film Gala hand-in-hand with artist Alexandra Grant over the weekend, Entertainment Tonight reports.
Grant, 46, passingly resembled Mirren after she wore her natural, silver hair tied back in a bun with her bangs down. Following her sensational appearance with Reeves, the internet went wild with the misunderstanding.
Mirren was attending the premiere of her new movie, 'The Good Liar', in New York City on Wednesday when she spoke to ET and addressed the apparent mixup.
"I saw that," Mirren said, referring to the social media furor that erupted over Reeves' dating rumors. "That was very flattering on me, you know, because she's obviously lovely."
That said, Mirren has been married to director Taylor Hackford for 22 years. While speaking with the outlet, the Oscar winner said she had nothing but love for the Matrix star.
"I do know Keanu very well. He did a film with my husband and he is just the most adorable, lovely person," she said, referring to the 1997 thriller The Devil's Advocate. "So she's a lucky girl and I'm sure that he's a lucky boy."
Meanwhile, Reeves and Grant share a long history together. He worked with her on his 2011 adult picture book, 'Ode to Happiness', which features illustrations by the LA-based artist.
The pair collaborated again in 2016 for yet another book, 'Shadows', and started a publishing company together the same year.
Having said that, 'The Good Liar' will be the first film to feature Mirren and McKellen working together on screen. McKellen credited the film's Oscar-winning director, Bill Condon, for bringing them together.
"When Bill Condon asks you to be in the movie you'll do it, even if Helen Mirren isn't in it. But then it turned out she was," McKellen said. "It was a double whammy for me."
