OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA: In a heartbreaking photo, a single father who was involved in an accident while driving at only 10 mph is seen clinging to his son's toy after dying and being revived three times. Jeremy McCain, a father and police officer from Oklahoma City, is currently recovering in a hospital after suffering severe injuries in a car crash.

McCain hit a partly open security gate while traveling at 10 mph on the Oklahoma Christian School campus. The gate smashed through the cop's patrol car's windscreen, pinning him inside while crushing his chest. According to Oklahoma County Sheriff Tommie Johnson III, bystanders "jumped right in there, started to do CPR" and were able to save his life after the freak accident.

'Jeremy McCain died three times'

"It's truly a miracle that he's still with us," Johnson said. "We were told that there were two off-duty medical professionals that reacted quickly and gave my brother a fighting chance by performing life-saving care until the ambulance arrived," the McCain family stated, reports The Sun.

The sheriff's office veteran of 11 years "died three times that evening," Johnson stated. McCain initially died at the site, but Johnson stated, "We were able to get him back." The single father died a second time while being treated in the emergency room. "Doctors opened his chest and began to massage his heart for 10 minutes," stated Johnson. Doctors were able to bring McCain back to life after his heart stopped beating a third time in the operating room.

'McCain holding his son's toy'

The sheriff's office published a gut-wrenching photo of McCain's hand holding one of his son's beloved toys while lying in a hospital bed. The officer is the sole parent of a 7-year-old child with autism. "Jeremy’s everything to this kid," Johnson stated. "And I think it’s a lot to be a cop and devote your life to a community and to the service, but also have someone that needs you just as much."

'McCain needed 60 units of blood'

McCain was hospitalized with a fractured neck and needed 60 units of blood. His injuries are currently unknown, despite the fact that his CT scans revealed working brain activity. "We have a long road to recovery and we are asking that everyone please continue to send prayers for the speedy recovery for Jeremy," the McCain family stated. According to Johnson, no one is to blame for the incident. "There's no negligence," Johnson stated. "It's just an accident that we wish we never had to speak about. But unfortunately we're here." a lighting vigil will be held in his honor on March 15, Wednesday between 7.00 to 8.00 pm at OU Medical, where McCain is receiving treatment for his injuries.

'He serves as a caring role model'

Oklahoma Christian Schools issued a statement regarding McCain, who serves as a school resource officer on campus. "Deputy McCain is loved by our school community – faculty, parents, and especially our students," stated Dr Al King, Headmaster of Oklahoma Christian Schools. "He knows them by name, greets them each morning as they arrive on campus, and makes every child feel special." AI King added that the father of the 7-year-old child "has been diligent to provide security and a law enforcement presence on our campus, as well as serve as a caring role model for our students."
