WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NEW YORK: A 24-year veteran police officer of Yonkers Police Department was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Tuckahoe Road near the Sprain Brook Parkway overpass on Friday, December 2.

Sergeant Frank Gualdino's car was rammed by a teenager in a BMW, who lost control and drove into oncoming traffic before hitting the cop's car and then an occupied Westchester county Bee-Line bus, authorities said as per NY Post

Who was Frank Gualdino?

Frank Gualdino, was a veteran of the Yonker Police Department assigned to the traffic unit as a supervisor. He was married and had two children, ages 14 and 20. The 53-year-old sergeant was just nine months from retirement when he was killed in the crash. The 2020 BMW M5, which was being driven by the 16-year-old, slammed into the cop's unmarked 2012 Chevy Impala.



 

Following the incident, Gualdino who sustained head and body injuries was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The identity of the BMW driver has not been disclosed as it is a minor. The driver is a student at a local private school possessed only a learner's permit that was received less than three weeks ago. The teenager is currently in critical condition. The car reportedly belonged to his relative.

As per a Facebook post from the police department, Mayor Mike Spano said, “Our hearts are heavy as the City of Yonkers has experienced an insurmountable loss. Sergeant Frank Gualdino was a cop’s cop and the epitome of Yonkers Finest. Yonkers is a close tight-knit community and when we lose one member of our law enforcement community, we all feel a sense of grief. Frank was someone we all knew and loved. He was a friend and a family man – the best of all of us and the best of Yonkers. May God protect Frank on his final journey and watch over wife, Lisa and children Emily and Mark. Rest easy, Frank. You are Yonkers Strong.”

The multi-vehicle car crash is still under investigation by the Yonkers Police Department and police reportedly stated that the examination of the accident would include the potential for criminal charges.
