Harry will feel helpless like 'duck out of water' as he struggles to establish himself in LA, says royal expert

Being in Hollywood is likely to make him feel like a duck out of water as it will be tricky for him to find a suitable role, Duncan Larcombe says

A royal expert said that Harry would likely feel "helpless" and like a "duck out of water" as he tries to establish himself after moving to Los Angeles with his wife, Meghan Markle, just days before the couple officially quit the royal family.

Duncan Larcombe, a journalist, and author of 'Prince Harry: The Inside Story' said that the helplessness of the former royal might stem from the fact that he was not able to be in the United Kingdom supporting his family and boosting the nation's morale as the citizens go into lockdown in their fight against the deadly coronavirus pandemic, Daily Mail reported.

"Harry didn't go to university and he hasn't had much work experience other than being in the army and charity work. Being in Hollywood is likely to make him feel like a duck out of water, as it will be tricky for him to find a suitable role. I suspect he will be missing home more than ever and feeling a bit helpless," he said.

He added that Harry might end up playing second fiddle to Meghan, who has both friends and family in the city and is familiar with the Hollywood culture as she is a former actress. As a result, Harry could be seen as Meghan's "plus one" for a long time to come as he tries to forge his own path in a foreign land.

While discussing the pair's move from Canada to Hollywood on the ROYALS podcast, expert Angela Mollard said recently that the move will be a difficult adjustment for Harry more than anyone else.

"It must be hard for him. He is separated from his family at a time when the rest of the world is using Zoom or WhatsApp to chat with each other – I can hardly see that happening. You know, they must feel very separate. He doesn't have friends in Los Angeles, she does," she said. "She has Doria, she has her family, and while Meghan might have been feeling equally removed in the United Kingdom, for Harry, friends have been the people who have supported him, friends and his brother, through all of the years since his mother's death. And to have that stripped away I think will be very discombobulating for him."

Royal expert Omid Scobie, on the other hand, revealed on The HeirPod podcast, that Harry and Meghan may find it difficult to pay for their security and their current lifestyle amid the pandemic, which is estimated to be around $4.9 million.

The prospect of footing their own security bill given that they have no regular source of income may be the concern here.

"They have spent the last few years not earning a living. As a royal, your expenses are covered but you don't earn a salary. It will be very tough for them especially in the few months ahead. No-one knows when there is an end date to this. This could follow us for some time. For Harry and Meghan, on top of the difficulties they have had with the press, there has been this underlying issue of who pays for security moving forward. It is something the couple was very conscious of — that from March 31st it would have to be done by themselves," Scobie said.
