Harry and Meghan slammed for 'cold' wish on Prince William's 37th birthday: 'Doesn’t sound like you wanna wish him at all'
Duke of Cambridge Prince William celebrated his 37th birthday on Friday, June 21.
Kensington Palace shared a snap of the royal to mark the occasion on social media.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the Duchess and Duke of Sussex, commented on the Instagram post saying, "Happy Birthday to The Duke of Cambridge!"
Soon after their response, the Sussexes were heavily criticized for being "cold" as their messages to other members of the royal family appeared much less formal, Express reports.
One user wrote: “@sussexroyal well well well, what a cold happy birthday.” Another commented: “@sussexroyal doesn’t sound like you wanna wish him at all.”
A third added: "Such a cold birthday wish. That's confirmation right there that something unsettling is going on between Meghan and Kate. The brothers and Kate were fine until Meghan. Very sad, indeed."
Other users, however, defended Harry and Meghan. “You guys are never happy!! When they wished George and Charlotte happy bday the informal way, it was the same people complaining," one user wrote.
The criticism comes after months of speculation over an apparent rift between the brothers and their wives.
Meghan and Harry moved to Windsor earlier this year, splitting from Cambridge's Kensington Palace household.
Following the move, the couple set up their own Instagram account and went ahead to appoint a separate head of communications for themselves.
Furthermore, it was revealed on Thursday, June 20 that the couple was also breaking away from their joint charity with William and Kate.
The Royal Foundation, which was set up by the brothers in 2009, was joined by Kate in 2011 and Meghan in 2018 following their respective royal weddings. It was meant to run all their charitable ventures and campaigns under one unit.
“These changes are designed to best complement the work and responsibilities of Their Royal Highnesses as they prepare for their future roles, and to better align their charitable activity with their new households,” Kensington Palace said in a statement.
The "cold" birthday wish will most likely add fuel to the speculations of a possible feud between the two royal couples.
