'Hacks' Season 2 Episode 2: Ava feels she's made a breakthrough with Deborah...she wishes!

A brief argument leads to an unchangable act, jeopardizing Ava's future

HBO Max is here with its new season of 'Hacks'. The comedy bits bolstered by some dark mentorship will make you want more of the drama. Season 1 did not disappoint as it gave us all we needed in terms of sarcasm, comedy, and some sass. Let's hope the second season outshines it.

Season 1 showed us the dark yet weirdly comical relationship between Ava and Deborah. The story of the show is built around their strange dynamics. Their relationship is thrown into a major crisis as the second season shows what happens because of a rookie mistake made by Ava.

If you've seen the first episode, we know that Ava and Deborah have their silly little arguments, time and again. But there is one specific argument that stands out. Call it a fight or pure chaos, the aftermath certainly lays out some long-lasting repercussions that will be portrayed in Season 2. Smarting from the clash, Ava, in a fit of pique, had written an email to one of Deborah's sponsors about all of her insecurities and dirty secrets.

Ava was quite frustrated but soon realized that what she'd done was wrong. She had dug a hole so deep that it would be impossible to get out without facing Deborah's wrath. Well, sure enough Season 2 of the show starts with a worried Ava trying to atone for the mistake she made by trying to fix it. She phones Deborah's lawyer and seeks his help on this and is constantly in touch with him through it all. Meanwhile, Deborah is simply unaware of anything going on and is busy planning her next move to amp up her career.

Soon enough, after an epiphany and a sudden realization, to be honest, Ava understands she needs to come clean with Deborah and decides to do it so when they are shopping for crystals. Deborah hears out on everything Ava has to say before she blows up, throwing all the crystals she holds in her hand. That very night during dinner, Deborah asks Ava to read her the email she had sent. Ava shrugs but starts reading it aloud on Deborah's insistence. The scene turns quite sad when Deborah finds out that Ava has given out quite a few personal details too.

After dinner, Deborah asks Ava to settle her bill and leaves. The next day, while Ava is waiting for her cab, Deborah revs in with her car and asks Ava to get it. On the way, the latter realizes that Deborah has probably forgiven her and tells her she's going to make room for change. Just then, she receives a call from Deborah's lawyer stating that she has been sued for almost 50 million dollars for having violated Deborah's NDA. With the news rolling in, Ava is in absolute shock and now can't figure out how she's going to pay it all.
