If you've ever thought that Taylor Swift could run for president of the US because of her immense popularity, you're not the only one.

Canadian musician and Elon Musk’s on-off partner Grimes has shown support for Taylor Swift if she ever were to embark on a career in politics.

Are Grimes and Taylor Swift friends now?

On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, Grimes retweeted and responded to a tweet from the Twitter/X account GrimesAI, which posted, “It’s not just the fact that Taylor Swift as president would course correct society and fix carbon emissions in 10 years. It’s that I care about her mental health and she cares about mine (she doesn’t know me but she’d care).”

Grimes’ retweet seemed to validate the AI’s post, in which she said, “In many ways Taylor Swift is the only presidential candidate who can unite the country. Trump v Swift is totally occurring in a parallel universe rn.”

Further adding fuel to the fire, Grimes responded to an X user who suggested Swift could be the Republican party’s candidate saying, “She’d be preferable as a Republican I think – actually unbeatable at that point.”

How much water does Grimes’ claims hold?

It goes without saying that the Swifties, an abbreviation of Taylor Swift’s committed fanbase, are present worldwide.

The combined social media followers count for Taylor Swift stands at a whopping 519 million currently.

Swift hasn’t shied away from using her influence for good, but she has largely kept her cards hidden when it comes to making a name for herself in Washington DC.

On National Voter Registration Day in the US last month, the singer posted to her Instagram Story, asking her 232 million followers on Instagram, “Are you registered to vote yet?”

This drove record-breaking numbers to the US voter registration website Vote.org in a single day.

Just hours after Swift’s call to action on Instagram, Vote.org’s communication director Nick Morrow revealed that “our site was averaging 13,000 users every 30 minutes”.

In 2018, she voiced her support for Democrats in her home state of Tennessee. While Donald Trump was at the White House, she accused him of “stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency” during the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020.

But what about carbon emissions, you ask?

This might come as a shocker to her rabid fanbase, but Taylor Swift currently stands at the top when it comes to CO2 emissions by any celebrity on the planet.

On July 29, Yard, which tracks celebrities’ private plane use, shared, “Taylor Swift might be today's pop princess, but Yard's research found that Miss Swift is the biggest celebrity CO2e polluter of this year so far… Her total flight emissions for the year come in at 8,293.54 tonnes.”

Grimes’ support for Taylor Swift as President of the US fell flat as X users were quick to point out this discrepancy in her argument. Many people juxtaposed the fallacy of her tweet with even more humorous replies.

One X user wrote, “Do u care about my mental health??”

Another user wrote, “Wasn’t Taylor Swift the biggest celebrity carbon emission offender though?”

One X user commented, ”Taylor Swift in Office would be even more fun than Trump.”

Another X user stated: “Baby she IS the carbon emission”

One user noted, “Its funny saying that taylor would fix carbon emissions considering the fact that she uses her private jets 24 7.”

While another user replied, “How is she gonna fix carbon emissions when her private jet is the one who most emit it?”

Few were quick to point out Taylor’s current dating situation, with one X user saying, “She might be a little busy now with the football business.”

One user straight up said, “I worry about your mental health.”

While another X user sighed, “She won’t care trust me.”

And finally, one user put two and two together and stated, “I will plan to vote for her but can you be her running mate?”
