'Greenleaf' Season 5 Finale: Bishop's death leaves fans fuming because 'nasty, vengeful' Lady Mae survived
Spoilers for 'Greenleaf' Season 5
Fans are not happy with the way OWN's 'Greenleaf' signed off after five strong and successful seasons. The megachurch drama saw one of its main characters, the family patriarch Bishop James Greenleaf fall unresponsive in the final moments of the penultimate episode. The series finale aka Season 5's Episode 8 kicks off with Lady Mae accompanying the Bishop in bed, and the answer arrives. He is dead. It's a sad emotional scene with Lady Mae saying her final goodbye, after all he managed to write down before dying, was "I do," on a piece of paper. The aftermath of his death sees Lady Mae with the family, with them bidding their emotional, teary-eyed goodbyes, followed by a very close and personal funeral in their estate's yard itself.
It's all very calm and rushed up feel fans as if he wasn't the Bishop of a giant Cavalry. They believe there should have been more pomp and show, with more recognition for such a pivotal character, who didn't deserve to die in the first place. The Bishop's death, although poetic and right after he confesses his sins, was what fans are calling too much, especially since the conniving, nasty, manipulative, vengeful antiheroine Lady Mae got to survive. It's just not fair at all, believe fans.
YOU DONT HAVE THE FUNERAL OF BISHOP they graveyard in the back of the house.... They shoulda gave us a public service and CARRIED!!! I mean should have HAD US IN OUR FEELINGS #Greenleaf pic.twitter.com/hFQmlwFs7d

Taking it to Twitter, one of them wrote very angrily "YOU DONT HAVE THE FUNERAL OF BISHOP they graveyard in the back of the house.... They shoulda gave us a public service and CARRIED!!! I mean should have HAD US IN OUR FEELINGS." Another complained: "We lost the Bishop, but Lady Mae and her conniving, nice/nasty, super salty, manipulative, vengeful, curled lip spirit, self is still here?"

Reactions such as "why they did the Bishop like that?" and "Lawd jesus not the Bishop" were common too. Other fans however found solace in the idea that a spinoff has already been greenlit, and expressed speculations surrounding a prequel featuring the Bishop in his younger days. "Lawd Jesus please let #Netflix pick up #Greenleaf Can we get a prequel..a sequel. Something. With Bishop alive and well of course. It can’t be over. Surely it’s not time," shared a fan in disbelief.

Another suggested: "Aww man. A Spin-off would be good. How would they get the fam back together though when Bishop has passed. It would need to be a prequel or something to include the Bishop - but that would eliminate other characters." Here's hoping the spin-off offers some closure to the injustice done to the Bishop.
