30 songs
What is 'Grease' without musical numbers? The music of the upcoming Paramount- series is composed by Justin Tranter, who has worked with several A-listers including Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa, Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga, the Chicks, Leon Bridges and Miley Cyrus. According to Variety, the upcoming 10-part series is set to have a total of 30 songs. This shouldn't come as a surprise as music producer and songwriter, Tranter, had previously stated that musicals are the main reasons they got into the field.
Moreover, Tranter joined the upcoming musical production after he gave several demos to the showrunner, Annabel Oakes. After making significant efforts, Tranter became a part of the series. Tranter has worked with some extraordinary co-writers to write and produce 30 original songs fro the musical. Further, Tranter has also acknowledged the fact that they got the inspiration from the original 'Grease' as well. They said, "For the most part, 'Grease' is a late-’70s version of ’50s nostalgia. This is not a perfect period piece. The original wasn’t, ours shouldn’t be either."
What is 'Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies' about?
The official synopsis of 'Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies' reads, "Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies is coming to Paramount+ 7th April. The musical series takes place in 1954: four years before the original 'Grease', four years before rock ‘n’ roll ruled and four yeas before the T-Birds were the coolest in the school. A group of fed-up outcasts, played by Marisa Davila, Cheyenne Isabel Wells, Ari Notartomaso and Tricia Fukuhara, dare to have fun on their own terms, sparking a moral panic that will change Rydell High forever."
'Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies' is set to premiere exclusively on Paramount + on April 6, 2023.
