'Gone too soon': Fans mourn Jessie Lemonier as NFL star dies at 25 leaving behind pregnant partner

While anti-vaccine lobbies were quick to blame the jab behind Jessie Lemonier's death, some people suspect suicide, though the cause is not confirmed

DETRIOT, MICHIGAN: The Detroit Lions announced on Thursday that 25-year-old Jessie Lemonier, a linebacker who played for the team as recently as 2021, has died. The team announced the death of Lemonier but did not elaborate further on what happened.

The team took to Twitter to share the news along with a photo of Lemonier and a statement from the team. "We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of former Detroit Lion Jessie Lemonier. Jessie was a model teammate and wonderful young man who is gone far too soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time," Detroit Lions announced.

As the cause of his death remains to be unknown, reports say that Jessie's girlfriend is expecting their child and the fans can't take his passing away at just 25. "So sad to hear about the passing of former Liberty standout Jessie Lemonier. Had a large part in our first bowl win vs. Georgia Southern and helping to build this football program. Praying for his family and friends," one user wrote. "Gone too soon. Our hearts are with Jessie's family, friends, and loved ones." Los Angeles Chargers wrote in a tribute on Twitter. 

While anti-vaccine lobbies were quick to blame the jab as a cause circulating it on social media, some people suspected suicide though the cause hasn't been confirmed. It is reported that he "died suddenly." "Jessie Lemonier committed suicide and people are blaming the vaccine. Sick people in this world. Please check up on your friends! Please, if you need someone to talk to, call 988 or text them," a user wrote. Jessie Adell Rogers said, "Hard news to hear this morning. Whenever he’d see me, he would yell “hey Jessie!” laughing because we shared the same name. Such a light and joy to be around. Gone way too soon. RIP, Jessie Lemonier."

"Terrible news," wrote another Twitter user, "What terrible news. Remember the stardom of Jessie Lemonier. Enjoyed watching him in my first year of following @LibertyFootball. Condolences." One pointed out, "Former Detroit Lions (2021) linebacker, Jessie Lemonier, died suddenly. His girlfriend is pregnant with his child." There were tributes and condolences from other teams, too, including Liberty Football. "Heartbreaking news today. Jessie was a loving teammate who always pushed his brothers to be the best. Praying for the entire LU Football community and the Lemonier family," one more wrote.
