Golden Globes 2020: It's a good year for Netflix with multiple big-ticket nominations in both TV and the movies

The nominations for the 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards were announced on December 9 by Tim Allen, Dakota Fanning, and Susan Kelechi Watson. The award ceremony will take place on January 5, 2020, and will be hosted by Ricky Gervais.
With multiple nominations across films and television, Netflix dominates among networks/streaming platforms this year. The streaming giant received a whopping 17 nominations across 11 films that included Noah Baumbach's 'Marriage Story' and Martin Scorcese's 'The Irishman'. 'Marriage Story' starring Adam Driver and Scarlett Johannson, earned six nominations while 'The Irishman' grabbed five.
'Marriage Story', 'The Two Popes', and 'The Irishman' were nominated for Best Motion Picture (Drama). 'Dolemite Is My Name' got nominated for Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy), while its star, Eddie Murphy was also nominated.
Adam Driver, Scarlett Johannson, and Laura Dern were nominated for their work in 'Marriage Story', directed by Noah Baumbach who was also nominated for Best Director. Joe Pesci and Al Pacino were nominated for their roles in 'The Irishman', while Martin Scorcese was nominated for directing the film.
For television, HBO's 'Barry', Netflix's 'The Crown' and 'Unbelievable' dominated with four nominations each. For best comedy, two of Netflix's shows were nominated -- 'The Kominsky Method' and 'The Politician'. 'Unbelievable' was nominated for Best Television Limited Series and also earned nominations for Kaitlyn Dever, Merritt Wever, and Toni Collete.
'The Crown' earned nominations for Olivia Coleman, Helena Bonham Carter, and Tobias Menzies. Alan Arkin and Michael Douglas earned nominations for their work in 'The Kominsky Method'.
The nominations for the 2020 Golden Globe Awards signify a shift for the awards season. Netflix earned a single nomination for Idris Elba for 'Beasts Of No Nation' in 2016. Other streaming services had a really good year with Amazon Prime and Hulu following with five nominations each and the latest entry into the foray by Apple earning three nominations.
