GMA’s Ginger Zee fearlessly dives into ocean to explore Florida Keys as she reports on coral reef, Internet says 'this is so heartbreaking'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Good Morning America’s’ meteorologist Ginger Zee seems to have taken a page out of Tom Cruise's adventure-filled life. To report on the record ocean temperatures in southern Florida, Zee dived into the ocean to give a glimpse of the deteriorating conditions of the coral reef. The 42-year-old 'GMA' star didn't hesitate in making the dive as she reported back to the studio about the ocean getting warmer.
Zee has recently been reporting on flash floods around New York and the rising temperatures in the southern half of the United States. However, her attention has slowly moved to Florida which is now witnessing its coral reefs bleach and wither away. Zee took the plunge and ventured out into the waters to see for herself.
Why did Ginger Zee dive into the Florida Keys?
Zee is a vocal proponent of climate change and has been addressing the issue on ‘GMA’ all this summer. However, it was only recently that Zee traveled to Florida to report on the incessant heat wave that’s disrupting the coral reefs in the Florida Keys. Zee took to Instagram and shared a clip with her followers where she’s onboard a small boat with a team from The Florida Aquarium, sailing to the part where coral reefs are found. Zee is later seen jumping into the waters with the protective gear on and pointing to the reef that has bleached and lost all its color.

Zee later hops back onto the boat and talks about the mass coral die-off which affects marine life and reminds her followers that protecting the reefs is incredibly important for the government as it rakes in billions in revenue to the state through the tourism and commercial fishing industries. Zee’s passion for her job was on exquisite display as she continues to report on the massive heat wave that is killing the lifespan of coral reefs in Florida.
‘No one can explain it like you can’
Fans and followers praised Zee for her intensive coverage and showered love and adoration for bringing a topic of immense importance out to the world. When Zee posted her video of diving into the ocean on Instagram, fans flocked to the comments section with concern. One user wrote, “This is just so sad and disturbing” while a second wrote, “This is so heartbreaking. Humans have messed up this planet and humans will have to be the ones to fix it.” A third was in awe of Zee’s professional acumen and said, “No one can explain it like you can. You do so in such a kind caring way. Those who don't believe in climate change cannot make a decent argument against anything you say.” A fourth called Zee fearless and stated, “Brave. I will be too afraid of alligators and unsuspecting sharks in Florida waters these days” while a fifth said, “Has the world turned on its axis? Besides the human effects, it seems so extreme."
