Renowned actor George Segal who was known for his roles in the hit sitcoms such as 'Just Shoot Me' and 'The Goldbergs' died at the age of 87. His demise was announced by his wife Sonia Segal in a statement on Tuesday, March 23. She reportedly said he passed away due to complications from a bypass heart surgery. 

Sonia said, "The family is devastated to announce that this morning George Segal passed away due to complications from bypass surgery." Did you know Segal played a regular on 'The Goldbergs' and is said to have filmed the last episode before his death? In fact, he will appear in Episode 16 of the show's current season, which is expected to "pay tribute to Segal on-air."

The talented actor was Oscar-nominated for his works as a young married professor in 'Who's Afraid Virginia Woolf?'. Segal has also appeared alongside Ruth Gordon in 1970's 'Where's Poppa?', Barbra Streisand 'The Owl and the Pussycat', and Elliot Gould in 'Californa Split'. His yet another notable role was as Jack Gallo on NBC's 'Just Shoot Me', which aired between 1997 and 2003.

The actor basked in an impressive fortune, thanks to his shining career in Hollywood.

What was George Segal's net worth?

The late actor was allegedly worth $10 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Undoubtedly, his successful acting career would have majorly contributed to his overall wealth. He is survived by his wife and two children. 

In 2017, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of television and has won two Golden Globe Awards, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his performance in 'A Touch of Class'. Besides carving a niche for himself as an actor Segal was also an accomplished banjo player. He has reportedly released three albums and has played instruments in several of his roles. 

One of his latest credits was on 'The Simpsons' in 2018 as a voice actor for the episode 'Heartbreak Hotel'

Fans trend RIP Pops as they mourn the actor's loss 

'The Goldberg' producer Adam F Goldberg took to Twitter to remember the late actor and share his condolences.

He wrote, "Today we lost a legend. It was a true honor being a small part of George Segal’s amazing legacy. By pure fate, I ended up casting the perfect person to play Pops. Just like my grandfather, George was a kid at heart with a magical spark. I think these memories say it all..."

One tweeted, "RIP Pops, and thanks for the laughs over the years." Another added, "Tomorrow I will take a break due to the loss of George Segal I’m really sad that he is gone and now I need to think about life and what it will be for me in the future Rip pops."

One wrote, "Some of my favorite parts in #TheGoldbergs were Adam and Pops antics and moments together. I'll miss seeing him on the show. RIP Pops."



 



 



 

Segal is survived by his wife Sonia and two daughters, Polly and Elizabeth.
