VANCOUVER, CANADA: Sport often boasts of wholesome moments that melt the audience’s hearts and the recent National Hockey League game between Detroit Red Wings and the Vancouver Canucks had just that! Michigan native George Miller, 4, who had come to see his first hockey game, had not expected to become an overnight star but managed to do just that as the jumbotron operator of the match kept flashing his face on the screens, much to the happiness of the audience who had cheered for him multiple times.

On Saturday, February 11, the Millers had taken shy little George to his first hockey game and had also made him a sign to celebrate the milestone. The sign read, “It’s my first game” and also had his name written on it. It caught the eye of the jumbotron operators as they kept panning the camera to him, repeatedly showing his face — making the audience cheer for him. Miller’s mother Chelsea had opened up about the heart-warming incident, saying, “He didn’t know it was about him.”

Miller’s day out!: George’s time at the game

Chelsea Miller had further detailed her son’s time at his first hockey game, saying that the boy remained blissfully oblivious about the cheering being for him. “He just kept saying: Red team’s winning.” She had also admitted to her son being a habitually shy boy, but he had apparently taken well to being shown on the big screen and also had a bright smile to flash every once in a while.

Daily Mail reports that even the Vancouver fans who had booed jokingly in the beginning (whose opponents the Millers had come to support), had taken to cheering for George as the game progressed.

Overnight superstar!: George had fans swarming around him after the game

“There were probably at least 100 people that asked to take pictures with him,” Chelsea said. The swarming crowd had high-fived him at every turn, while some had also asked for his autograph. And it did not stop there. George’s popularity only soared after the day of the game, with the Red Wings Twitter account posting, “WE LOVE GEORGE.”

The University of Michigan hockey team had also posted a cheeky tweet trying to get the boy to support them as they said, “George do you need a Michigan jersey for the next game?” And it wasn’t just the hockey teams, but NBA as well! The Detroit Pistons had also invited George to one of their games, saying, “Let us know if he wants to come to a Pistons game!” George’s family was only happy to reply as his grandmother tweeted, “Absolutely!”
